RESEARCH SCIENTIST, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), to join the Edelman Group (http://math.mit.edu/edelman/) . Will apply expertise in abstractions for high performance computing (HPC) and Julia (https://julia.mit.edu/) and play a significant role in the development of the Julia (https://julia.mit.edu/) high performance ecosystem and applications. Will serve as a key member of a multidisciplinary group that includes mathematicians, computer scientists, and domain experts; plan, conduct, and implement research tasks and projects that will require independent judgment in the evaluation, selection, and substantial modification of standard techniques/procedures for the development of Julia technology; and develop new approaches to the principles and concepts of abstractions in high performance computing.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Ph.D. in EECS or closely related field; at least ten years’ relevant experience in the synthesis and characterization of parallel software codes that includes scientific software experience such as that from U.S. national laboratories; patents and/or intellectual property in the HPC field and experience transitioning laboratory research into commercial settings; experience optimizing HPC workloads on supercomputers; familiarity with high-level programming languages and modern machine learning; mathematics background at least at the B.Sc. level; strong leadership, supervisory, project management, interpersonal, client service, relationship-management, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills; experiencing mentoring/supervising students and research staff; discretion and judgement with confidential information; and experience supervising lab safety/maintenance and knowledge of MIT policies and EHS. Must be able to keep projects/deliverables on track; promote collaboration with a range of faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders; make independent decisions; and prepare scientific papers. PREFERRED: solid publication track record in conference and journals related to HPC, experience presenting research findings, and experience developing successful technical proposals.
