RESEARCH SCIENTIST, Aeronautics and Astronautics (AeroAstro)-Interactive Robotics Group (IRG) ( , to collaborate with researchers to develop and deploy robotics applications to control manipulator and mobile robots; assist with developing and maintaining core sensing and control systems for robotic mobile and manipulation platforms; develop infrastructure to maintain and expand onboard sensing capabilities; design interfaces for robot programming, debugging, and control; and document and write test cases for research codebases. Responsibilities include conducting training/demonstrations for practicing technicians/engineers; providing technical and pedagogical expertise; collecting and analyzing experimental data; designing, developing, and publishing algorithms; assisting faculty/collaborators with research development; technical writing for publication; consulting with external collaborators about partnering on research projects; presenting research results; website maintenance; operating robotic platforms; and developing training curricula.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: master’s in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, robotics, or related field; experience with programming languages (C#, JavaScript/Node.js, C++, C, Python, T-SQL), MATLAB programming, data (JSON and XML), networking (LAN, WAN, VPN, etc.), embedded systems programming, Linux kernel and module programming, ROS 1 (including Gazebo, MoveIT, Rviz, and physical UAVs), computer vision (OpenCV, PCL, object detection, image segmentation, etc.), cloud products (AWS, Azure, etc.), hybrid mobile app development (Xamarin, Ionic, Flutter), mixed reality development (Unity for Hololens), simulation development (Unreal Engine for CARLA), cyber-physical systems design and development (integrating sensors, microcontrollers, networking, and security into smart IoT systems), reinforcement learning, and motion/path planning (A, D Lite, RRTConnect); excellent organizational, time-management, project management, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills; ability to interface with sponsors; discretion with confidential information/issues; and ability to work in an inclusive culture and appreciate and leverage the capabilities, insights, and ideas of all individuals.
