RESEARCH SCIENTIST 3, Chemical Engineering, to join an active, inclusive, and collaborative lab conducting research and developing machine-learning software for topics relevant to pharmaceuticals, e.g. molecular properties, chemical reactions and kinetics, synthesis & production route planning. Will design and improve molecular simulation methods for Chemistry, Materials Science, and Biotechnology; and lead the design and development of modeling methods, open-source software packages, and databases, working in collaboration with the Principal Investigator (PI) and several members of the research team.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a related field and a minimum of seven years of related experience, preferably leading research projects and supervising Ph.D. students in a university setting; extensive experience developing open-source scientific software; expertise and scholarly activity in modeling, simulating, and/or estimating properties important in liquid phase chemical processes; track record of success in a university environment, demonstrated e.g. by receiving promotion; ability to explain data including results of simulations and models, to facilitate decision-making processes to be data-driven; ability to manage multiple objectives/tasks/resources and meet competing deadlines; experience with academic research projects, mentoring students, and ability to interact with research sponsors; experience handling large computer-generated datasets, including the development and application of appropriate data analysis tools and creating appropriate visualizations; demonstrated ability for taking initiative, creativity, and innovation in problem solving; solid record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific meetings, preferably in computational chemistry or molecular aspects of chemical engineering; and excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. PREFERRED: Professional teaching experience; experience leading the development of an open-source software package; and broad experience in chemical engineering including chemical engineering fundamentals.
