RESEARCH ASSOCIATE, Norman B. Leventhal Center for Advanced Urbanism (LCAU), to join a team working on the design and planning of large-scale, complex metropolitan environments. Will divide time with MIT’s Civic Data Design Lab and contribute to several ongoing research efforts. At the LCAU, will support new initiatives being developed at the intersection of data science, technology, and city design, with a particular interest in the ethical data practices of data; and work in close collaboration with the director of LCAU and provide regular updates on research progress. Other responsibilities may include coordinating and preparing grant proposals and maintaining servers and databases. Will also be expected to build a publication record, through both traditional and non-traditional outlets.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: a master’s or terminal degree in architecture, urban design, urban planning, geography, or a related field of study; at least two years of direct experience; experience with web development and AWS management, databases, data visualization, web mapping tools, and data science; comfort contributing to research framing and undertaking the development of tools that might aid designers in their use of data; ability to process and synthesize large data sets.
