The Product Quality Engineer is responsible for partnering with Systems and Design Engineers to review and interpret product requirements and develop/implement subsequent Mission Assurance plans, procedures, and processes in order to meet these requirements.

As part of a larger, cross functional team, the Product Quality Engineer will interact with engineers from Systems, Design and Test Engineering to develop product support and qualification plans based on Draper’s Quality Management System (QMS) guidelines and product requirements. Qualification plans will be at the part, assembly or system level.

The individual will be required to work independently within the program and engineering organization and assist them with implementation of Draper’s best engineering practices and processes throughout the product development lifecycle.

Responsibilities for the Product Quality Engineer

  • Work closely with the Program and Engineering to understand and comply with the associated specs, requirements, standards, and best practices.

  • Participate in reviews of design plans, process procedures, test procedures, and quality requirements to meet customers contract requirements.

  • Develop Qualification plans for parts, assemblies, systems, and materials as needed

  • Prepare MRB documentation and reviewing and authorizing product or process deviations with customer or internal program approval.

  • Utilizes analytical skill sets to perform Root Cause, Causal Analysis and Corrective/Preventive Action.

  • Analyze data to identify trends in product quality or defects with a goal of mitigating and preventing recurrence and future defects.

  • Provide Quality Management System (QMS) guidance and direction to program personnel for QMS compliance.

  • Manage and oversee program document peer reviews, submittal, and approval for product’s Configuration Management release.

  • Support program internal and external audits and supplier surveillance activities when necessary.

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree or Master's degree in engineering

  • 5+ years of experience in Systems, Manufacturing and/or Quality Engineering in a Product Development environment

  • Experience with quality management systems and ISO 9001-2015 and/or AS9100 standards

  • Strong foundational knowledge of electronics and electronic component technologies and their subsequent qualification to design requirements

  • Possess a working knowledge of the associated manufacturing standards: IPC-A-600, IPC-A-610, IPC-A-6012 and IPC J-STD-001.

  • Ability to work on cross functional teams

  • Understanding of Life Cycle Management

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Good interpersonal skills to communicate clearly with the internal team and customer

  • Must possess strong organizational skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, in English

Travel

  • Up to 25% travel within the United States

Security Requirement:

  • Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for having/obtaining up to a Secret Clearance.
