Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Engineering Manager in Cambridge, Massachusetts

The .NET Project System team is building the developer experience for millions of .NET developers in a mobile first, cloud first world. Join us to build .NET Project support to enable developers to build solutions for the cloud, desktop, and tablet using C# and VB.NET.

We are the team that enables .NET developers to create projects in Visual Studio for Windows using both C# and VB.NET. Our code base is open source, and we collaborate with customer and partners in the open. We are looking for an engineering manager dedicated to learning who can grow our team of engineers. This team enables millions of developers to build compelling software which are run 100’s of billion times a day. Our team offers a lot of opportunities for positive impact and personal growth.

As the Engineering Manager of this team, you will have the opportunity to work with a talented team of engineers within Microsoft and across the industry. Your role will include setting product direction, building a team culture were people do their best work, and support various team and group wide deliverables.



This roles includes mentoring and coaching your team members achieve their career aspirations, code reviews, participating in design discussions, coordinating with partner teams, planning upcoming sprints and release, setting future direction, and interacting with our community on GitHub.

This opportunity can be fully remote, and successful candidates can come from anywhere within the US.


Required Basic Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience developing commercial software

  • 3+ years of experience with C#

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of people management experience

  • Demonstrated solution delivery through a full product cycle in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or equivalent experience

  • Demonstrates excellent judgment, problem solving and leadership skills

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

The salary for this role in the state of Colorado is between $153, 100 to $224,500.

At Microsoft, certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role.
