What would you do with the state of the art systems and technology combined with automation to solve the toughest biology problems at scale? The High Throughput Biology (HTB) team is looking for a creative, motivated scientist with practical experience in developing and executing assays taking advantage of all that NIBR has to offer. We are looking for someone to elevate our endeavors in phenotypic screening in the discovery process.

HTB is part of the larger Chemical Biology and Therapeutics (CBT) department that encompasses the full-spectrum of sophisticated capabilities needed to succeed in a state-of-the-art drug discovery biopharma laboratory. This position will collaborate closely with research teams within CBT, as well as across diverse Disease Areas.

Your responsibilities Include:

  • collaborating closely with colleagues to assist in the development and implementation of disease relevant and biochemical assays on automated systems.

  • developing, optimizing, adapting, and evaluating assay protocols suitable for automated screening and HTS using compounds or genetic reagents

  • working with automation team members and collaborating with reagent production laboratories, detail the large amount of data generated in your studies in databases and present your results in project team meeting

  • Make connections and propose hypotheses from the multitude of data at your disposal.

  • Assess and implement emerging cutting-edge technologies and novel assays

  • Engage with multidisciplinary project teams to design, execute, and interpret experiments

  • Develop productive relationships with collaborators and represent Novartis values of integrity, courage, innovation, performance, quality, and collaboration

  • Leading projects from the bench and contributing to the growth and development of associates in the group

Minimum requirements:

What You'll Bring to the Role:

  • Ph.D. and 3+ years of experience, or a BS/MS with an extensive background in HTS, and experience leading a team.

  • Proven track record of assay development in an academic or industrial environment

  • Experience in or the aptitude to learn large-scale data handling and databases

  • Experience with processing and interpreting profiling data.

  • Experience in laboratory automation and interest in novel readout technologies with experience in High-Throughput Screening an advantage

  • Open and proactive communicator, excellent writing skills, customer focused to interact with various partners in a multidisciplinary team setting

  • Reliable and flexible teammate, used to sharing tasks and projects

  • Prioritizing, keeping timelines and good organization skills

  • Independent and accurate working style, results-driven and committed to quality

Desirable Requirements:

  • Strong background in biochemistry and/or cell biology to understand mechanism of disease

  • Have understanding of or ability to learn basic computer programming concepts and languages
