The GNC System Architecture group at Draper is seeking a Principal GNC System Architect to work within multi-disciplinary teams to architect next-generation weapon system concepts for the war fighter. This role will be of high interest to applicants that desire to participate in the conceptualization and development of new US military capabilities in strategic mission domains, as well as the enabling guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) subsystem technology. Relevant mission domains may include: global strike and/or strategic deterrent systems, missile defense systems, hypersonic missiles, space systems, precision guided munitions, and autonomous air/sea vehicles.
Duties and responsibilities may include:
Leadership of small multi-disciplinary teams to innovate new system solutions;
Analysis of customer mission needs and development of use cases;
System requirement definition and development;
Concept/architecture development, including analysis of alternatives;
Presentation of design/results to both internal and external stake-holders;
Planning for architecture/design maturation and development;
Design/development of enabling GNC technology and technology roadmaps;
Development of systems engineering/design artifacts and documentation
Support for proposals/business development.
A successful candidate will be motivated to build deeper expertise in both the core mission domain and underlying GNC technology. Working in a dynamic team environment developing state-of-the-art weapon/GNC systems will provide exposure to a wide range of advanced technologies (including inertial sensors, imagers, precision electronics, and advanced algorithms) as well as afford opportunities for increased leadership/impact on the development of new war-fighter capability.
Applicants must have the following key qualifications:
An M.S. or Ph.D. degree in a relevant engineering/physics discipline;
12+ years of professional experience working with avionics or defense systems;
Practical experience with systems engineering for defense systems;
Experience in system modeling and model-based systems engineering;
Experience in systems engineering for integrated hardware/software systems;
Strong foundational knowledge of missile guidance, navigation, and control (GNC);
Prior experience in technical leadership of small teams;
Strong presentation skills and the ability to articulate complex technical ideas.
Any of the following additional qualifications are highly desirable:
Experience in multi-objective design optimization;
Proficiency in Systems Modeling Language (SysML);
Foundational knowledge and/or practical experience with radiation physics and effects, as pertaining to the design of avionics systems.
