Sanofi Group Operations Manager Integrated Drug Discovery in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Integrated Drug Discovery (IDD) is the small molecule drug discovery unit within Sanofi. IDD is an interdisciplinary group that spans medicinal chemistry, structural biology, screening, biochemistry, biophysics, cellular pharmacology, delivery technologies and more. Our vision is to sustain and optimize a globally competitive discovery platform that effectively delivers valuable high- quality synthetic drugs and other modalities to improve the lives of patients.

Reporting to the Site Head of IDD US, this role will support Medicinal Chemistry, In Vitro Biology, and Compound Management groups.

The position is based in Waltham and moving to Cambridge, MA in late 2022.

Position Overview:

The Operations Manager will coordinate with all support functions to ensure that the US IDD operates efficiently, lead and support local and global cross-departmental initiatives that aim at simplification of processes and operational excellence, and lead initiatives in communications and environmental sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage OPEX, CAPEX and external budget/contracts for IDD and liaise with other US Platforms groups as appropriate (DMPK, PCS, PDS)

  • Interface with the IDD LT and managers on the overall budget process that includes approvals, tracking of spending and resolving payment.

  • Develop and execute strategic plans for capital investment equipment.

  • Serve as the key interface with the support organizations (Controlling, Accounting, IPOM, Purchasing and Planning)

  • Maintain up to date organization charts

  • Act as an ACTIME Resource Manager (overseeing account maintenance and carrying out quarterly report quality) for the Waltham/Cambridge site.

  • Assist Managers with contingent worker and manage service hiring needs

  • Support managers with on-boarding and off-boarding processes

  • Key project team member to assist in move of IDD/US to Cambridge Crossing in November 2022

  • Oversee for the Cambridge Site space planning for office space, laboratory space and large instruments and automation space (need identification and optimization).

  • Coordinate office and laboratory moves and on-boarding of new or transferred employees.

  • Serve as the key interface with Facilities stakeholders (Facilities Shared Services, Security, Engineering and IT teams).

  • Serve as the contact with HSE including tracking of HSE objectives

  • Ambassador for Sanofi's Environmental Sustainability programs representing IDD US in initiatives such as "Planet Mobilization" and US Chemistry Green Team

  • Serve as global IDD communications coordinator, liaising with other site operations, site heads, and global head.

  • Coordinate and distribute monthly project reports, share publications/presentations, personnel changes, etc.

  • Act as interface for local life sciences communities and for the NA Hub and other NA Hub related activities

  • Strengthen coordination, operations, and interactions between Cambridge, Vitry-Alfortville and Frankfurt sites

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a business or technical discipline with 10 years of operations and/or scientific experience in biopharma or a Master's degree/MBA with 7 years of operations and/or scientific experience in biopharma

  • Strong Finance knowledge and experience (in depth familiarity with financial planning, budget processes and management, purchasing and accounts payable, accounting)

  • Results oriented and focused on providing service and solutions to the organization with a strong motivation for operational excellence

  • Comfortable and efficient in fast moving complex global environment

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong track record of accomplishments and operational excellence in high growth entrepreneurial and/or matrixed large company environment

  • Deep understanding and experience regarding personnel, organization and facility (including laboratory) planning, tracking and management

  • Approachable and open with firm stand on deliverables and agreed on goals

  • Keen and able to challenge the status quo and drive change seeking optimal outcomes; commitment to continued improvement

  • Customer-oriented mindset; aimed at simplifying bureaucracy and operations procedures for IDD scientists
