MEDIA RELATIONS MANAGER, School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (SHASS) (part-time 50%), to develop and oversee a media relations program for SHASS. Will develop an effective media relations strategy to raise visibility of the school’s mission and global impact; work closely with the SHASS communication team to identify/implement high-impact strategies, oversee sustained media presence for selected faculty, plan/implement partnerships with selected media organizations, and identify subjects for relevant research-based commentaries; build and manage tailored press lists; write press releases and pitch stories to media; staff on-camera and in-studio interviews for faculty and leadership; manage and respond to media inquiries; serve as a contact for the school during emergencies; brief the communications director and faculty leadership; establish evaluation method for the media initiative; serve as a contributing writer/editor for SHASS communications publications and prepare media entries for a monthly digital publication; and manage the media-related work of the communications assistant.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred) in communications, literature, history, journalism, or related field; at least ten years’ experience in media relations; ability to represent SHASS and the Institute in ongoing interactions with external media and press, at school events with leadership and visitors, and during emergencies; demonstrated experience working effectively with reporters; excellent writing, interpersonal, and presentation skills; experience with brand building and positioning; skill with social media content and analysis; knowledge of the humanities, arts, and social science fields and 21st century education issues; and fluency with web editing, Cision, Photoshop, analytic tools, PowerPoint, etc. Media relations experience at an academic institution would be a plus.
