Affinivax Lab Operations Manager in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Title: Lab Operations Manager

Reports to: Senior Facilities Manager

Overview

Affinivax is a Cambridge-based clinical stage biotechnology company with a novel, next generation approach to the development of vaccines and immunotherapies targeting infectious and other immune mediated diseases. This novel and highly efficient vaccine technology – called Multiple Antigen Presenting System (MAPS) – enables the high affinity binding of protective polysaccharides as well as proteins in a single vaccine, uniquely inducing a broad and protective B-cell and T-cell immune response.

Summary:

Affinivax is currently seeking a highly motivated lab operations management professional to manage laboratory logistics and interface with GMP manufacturing operations. The successful candidate will have experience managing laboratory operations and equipment in a dynamic life sciences and small scale GMP manufacturing environment. They will also have experience in contract management, asset inventory management and be familiar with EHS requirements for BSL1 and BSL2 laboratories.

Your Role:

  • Work cross functionally to build a world-class operations infra-structure with scalable programs that will be ready to advance to the next level of Affinivax’s dynamic research and manufacturing goals.

  • Member of the Affinivax Safety Team

  • Oversee lab asset management, equipment repair, and maintenance needs

  • Service contract review and management to maintain equipment service schedules.

  • Ensure regulated and qualified equipment compliance and oversee IQ, OQ, PQ.

  • Perform daily lab walk-throughs to identify issues and coordinate corrective actions.

  • Ensure that the labs are clean and maintained according to company standards and industry best practices through partnering with lab staff and management.

  • Provide guidance on findings from monthly lab inspections, promoting constant improvement.

  • Author and contribute to operational SOP’s

  • Coordinate with facilities management to ensure compliance with wastewater policies and disposal of hazardous waste

  • Oversee lab support functions and equipment including:

  • Buffer prep support

  • Autoclave and glass wash processes

  • Lab consumables

  • Temperature control unit alarm response and management

  • Biological safety cabinets and fume hoods

  • Local UPS maintenance management

  • Lab gas supplies

  • Experience with optimizing lab space

  • Periodically review online SDS database

  • Interest in Chemical Hygiene Officer responsibilities to contribute to and further develop the Affinivax EHS program

    Your Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Chemistry area of study preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Facilities Management, or equivalent also considered.

  • 6-9 years of supporting, working or managing in a laboratory environment

  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment and operations in both GLP and GMP environments

  • Tech savvy with ability to learn new tools and software and identifying continuous improvements to current systems

  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects and willingness to work effectively in a highly collaborative and diverse environment as a cross functional team player.

  • Strong work ethic with strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong inter-personal skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize resources, positively influence group behaviors, and work with associates to gain consensus on laboratory best practices.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a dynamic team with a positive attitude, sense of humor, strong sense of urgency, and a bias towards action.
