Draper is seeking an enthusiastic engineer to lead the Perception & Autonomy Group.

The Group Leader is the first-level of engineering management and will be a hands-on technical leader. The candidate will be a direct contributor to projects and business development activities. In this capacity, the selected candidate will collaborate with other staff members to develop and transition innovative technologies. In addition to these individual responsibilities, the managerial responsibilities include working with the Division Leader to: a) hire and support the career development, growth, and project assignments for the group’s staff; b) develop the group’s technical vision and capabilities; and c) assist in the oversight of project execution within the group.

In this role, the candidate will work on cutting-edge efforts for US Government and commercial customers as well as internal R&D projects. The ideal candidate is an assertive self-starter, engaging colleagues and building ideas in a team-centered environment.

Responsibilities:

The applicant will lead a team of highly motivated Engineers in the design, development, test, implementation and operation of autonomous systems for DoD and commercial applications. We seek applicants who will fit well in this dynamic team while designing challenging and developing technologies crucial to the advancement of robotics systems including but not limited to autonomous aerial vehicles, autonomous underwater vehicles, and other decision-making frameworks.

Required Qualifications:

  • MS/PHD in Computer Science, Robotics, similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience

  • Experience in at least one of the following: robotics research in motion planning and control (e.g., trajectory optimization, planning under uncertainty, probabilistic robotics, optimal control, guidance, navigation & control(GN&C)), robotics research in navigation/perception (e.g. state estimation, Kalman Filtering, computer vision)

  • Experience leading teams and contributing to proposal development

  • Solid programming experience (e.g., C/C++, Python, Matlab), experience with robot operating system (ROS)

  • Good written and spoken communication skills
