FINANCIAL OPERATIONS MANAGER, Materials Research Laboratory (MRL) (https://mrl.mit.edu/index.php/about-mrl) , to manage and provide administrative leadership on financial, business, and administrative matters for a research center with an annual expenditure volume of $21M. Will manage pre- and post-award and other financial activities. Responsibilities include developing and submitting research proposals and serving as the primary financial contact for principal investigators (PIs); serving as a primary point of contact with the Office of Sponsored Programs and sponsor on grant and contract activities; advising PIs on proposal opportunities; preparing financial forecasts for PIs; documenting and monitoring expenditures on grants/contracts and ensuring financial review and control procedures are performed; managing labor distribution activities and labor certification processes; processing subcontracts; managing cost-sharing, F&A under-recovery, and cost object close-outs; supervising, training, and mentoring fiscal staff; managing facilities-related fiscal issues for research groups; advising/assisting staff, faculty, and students on accounting, purchasing, and general administration matters; collaborating on developing, implementing, and leading policies/strategic direction; maintaining and interpreting statistical data; advising the director regarding MIT/sponsor/government regulations and policies; and serving as primary contact for all Manufacturing Innovation Institute activity.
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree, preferably in a quantitative discipline; seven years’ senior-level administrative experience supporting research programs in higher education; solid knowledge of management, finances, operations, and human resources functions; self-motivation; excellent organizational, analytical, and verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience; proactive approach to responsibilities; sponsored research financial management skills/experience; and ability to work collaboratively, set and achieve priorities, handle sensitive/confidential matters, and function autonomously. PREFERRED: proficiency with MS Office; knowledge of SAP, Kuali COEUS, BrioQuery, NIMBUS, and Roles Database; and working knowledge of MIT policies/procedures. Job #21466-10 6/23/22
