FINANCIAL COORDINATOR, SPONSORED ACTIVITY, Chemical Engineering, to support to the department’s financial team. Will identify potential issues and possible solutions and bring them to the senior financial officer’s attention so strategies can be developed for long-term solutions, handle a complex research portfolio, serve as point-of-contact for a designated set of principal investigators (PIs)/faculty, handle invoice management, and assist with managing projects as needed (a shared responsibility with two other financial coordinators). Responsibilities include all pre-award management/proposal development within the portfolio; pre- and post-award administration within the portfolio, including budget and proposal development, grant proposal submissions to sponsors, monitoring expenditures, analyzing financial reports, reviewing/approving purchasing transactions, processing no-cost extensions, account close-outs, clearing suspense salary charges and assisting faculty with maintaining compliance with federal guidelines and MIT policies and procedures; performing FRCs and preparing account projection reports with different scenarios; attending bimonthly financial meetings with the PIs that fall within the portfolio. Will report to the senior financial officer.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; at least three years’ relevant financial management experience; knowledge of federal research regulations; experience in academic programs and administration; excellent organizational skills; attention to detail; strong analytical and communication skills; demonstrated sound judgment; ability to quickly meet short turn-around times. Seek a service-oriented professional who is able to multitask and perform hands-on work in a team­based work group. Knowledge of and experience with MIT financial systems and sponsored accounting helpful; as are excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SAP, COEUS, and electronic proposal submission software. Broad understanding of Cognos Reports desired. Job #16142-OThis is a term appointment running for approximately eleven months from the date of hire.
