Responsible for planning, coordination, promotion, and execution of department events. Responsible for all event details including:
Logistical organization (space, food, a/v, etc.)
Communications and public relations
Budget planning and oversight
Event promotion and marketing
Preparation of materials, invitations, accommodations, transportation, registration, dining, audio-visual and other technical requirements
Temp and vendor staffing oversight during supervision of events
Processing travel reimbursements and honoraria
Researches and negotiates with caterers, venues, hotels, airlines, and other vendors for discounted rates, all while adhering to Harvard financial, travel and sponsored research policies
Update and maintain department website, ensuring formatting and content adhere established standards.
Find, format and post relevant information (e.g. faculty award announcements), and keep all pages up-to-date.
Point-person for any technical issues.
May write content for features on faculty and students
May produce video series for website on faculty research
Oversee any work-study students on project-based work
Department Outreach and Branding Coordination
Acts as primary contact and coordinator for department communication-related activities. This area of work includes:
Establish style standards and ensures correct implementation
Point person on incoming external media requests
Maintain accurate department listservs and manage access to shared mailboxes
Act as point-person with freelance writers, designers, Harvard Public Affairs & Communication, Harvard Web Publishing, etc., as needed
Point-person for incoming inquiries about event promotion or co-hosting as well as media inquiries.
Coordinate department publications with key stakeholders in the department
Provide oversight for the department’s social media presence as needed

The Department of Economics' Events and Communications Coordinator is responsible for department events as well as all communication platforms and tools. Reporting to the Associate Director of Administration (ADA), this position is responsible for planning, coordinating, promoting, and executing all department-level events, including internal events such as faculty events and department celebrations; and larger-scale events such as public lectures and memorials. In addition, the Events and Communications Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and executing the department’s external communication activities and overall communications strategy, with direction from the ADA. This includes maintaining a current and engaging department website; maintaining departmental listservs; coordinating the publication of departmental reports; preparing and sending weekly newsletter; maintaining current branded materials and monitoring usage; and overseeing department social media accounts.
