The Microsoft Commercial Cross Solutions (CCS) organization is seeking a dynamic technical leader to drive our strategic performance management strategy and balance scorecards programs!

About the role: Director, Strategic Performance Management

As the Director of Strategic Performance Management (SPM), you will lead, engage, and support the CCS business on numerous fronts, defining and refining business execution strategies with a specific focus on designing and implementing new strategic approaches, ideas, and processes that will grow the business and avail measurable results. You will also put into place performance measures that will determine the effectiveness of implemented strategies and identify areas for strategic improvement, thereby closing the gap between strategy and execution.

The CCS Director of Strategic Performance Management will leverage their strong technical and business acumen, and experience working with key business executives and stakeholders to establish an effective KPI and measurement framework that the business will use to measure performances against and determine the effectiveness of execution strategies. This information will also be leveraged to evaluate overall performance against targets and make necessary adjustments on an ongoing basis.

Finally, your background in strategic performance management, technology & strategy execution, business management, finance, and organizational strategy for business optimization will be utilized to coordinate across a broad set of sales, finance, operations, marketing, and engineering stakeholders and partners

What you will be doing:

  • Design, develop, and execute a strategic performance management framework, creating a common language amongst all parts of the organization so that the teams can effectively interact across key functional groups by:

  • aligning and cascading strategic objectives down to day-to-day operational goals

  • developing balanced scorecards for reporting

  • making reporting easier and focusing on “metrics that matter”;

  • testing and validating operational and strategic decisions.

  • Define potential sales business models to realize profitability opportunities and to gain insightful qualitative analyses.

  • Develop and implement strategic and analytical tools and processes that drive measurable business results.

  • Develop the CCS balanced scorecard that measures both financial and nonfinancial aspects of the business across financial, customer, internal business or operations, and innovation/growth, helping executive leadership understand where to make smart trade-offs when there are competing objectives.

Additional Role Expectations:

  • Translate strategy into actionable goals for performance and growth, helping to implement organization-wide goal setting, performance management, and annual operations plans

  • Routinely track business unit KPIs and expenses to ensure the company achieves growth and profitability targets; collaborate with senior leadership teams on establishing corrective measures

  • Work across functional areas to ensure successful planning, execution, measurement of CCS strategic programs and initiatives

  • Lead organizational issue resolution, effectively manage ambiguity, and propose workable solutions to challenging and complex obstacles

  • Cascade strategic enterprise- and corporate-level objectives down to the CCS business and functional objective

  • Define and establish a KPI library aligned to the CCS business and functional objective

  • Develop a consistent and detailed calculation methodology, benchmarking requirements, and functional data requirements for all KPI

  • Work across key functional stakeholders to develop a KPI dashboard for each business unit and functional area

  • Build mock-up monthly operating reports using the KPI library as a proof of concept to be further implemented by the CCS technology teams

  • Lead performance management process that measures and evaluates progress against goals for aspects of the CCS operations


What we are looking for:

  • 7+ years of working experience in a technical strategy management position, preferably working as a senior strategy manager in a fast paced and dynamic business environment.

  • Experience overseeing activities of a strategy management team.

  • Experience with balanced scorecards and development of KPI frameworks.

  • Capacity to obtain and filter information, identify key issues relevant to the achievement of long-term strategic goals, and commit to the realized course of action for the purpose of accomplishing those goals.

  • Awareness and previous experience analyzing market trends as well as identifies and explores any adjacencies to the business to ascertain risks and opportunities.

  • A proven ability to generate new outlooks of the business on the market, for example, through trend forecasting, deep research & analysis, and innovation.

  • Possesses a vast knowledge of business’s risk parameters, ability to determine implications for the business and implement measures for risk mitigation.

  • Experience in strategic planning and analysis, marketing/market research, competitive intelligence, and corporate business development.

  • Extensive technical experience, strong business acumen, and solid financial grounding with a proven track record of developing and driving growth initiatives while identifying business opportunities to develop strategies that capitalize on those opportunities.

  • Strong analytical, written and presentation skills

  • Solid understanding of Cloud technologies

  • Results oriented with initiative, ownership, and follow-through to completion.

  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to successfully manage competing priorities and deliverables in a fast-paced, dead-line oriented environment.

  • Experience bringing different organizations together to collaborate and work through differences in approach

Location/Travel: You may be based anywhere in the United States. You can expect limited global travel, 0 – 25%, contingent upon Covid-19 restrictions.
