Bachelor's degree required.
A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience including 6 years of progressive work experience in 3 or more of the following areas: export control, sponsored projects, financial compliance, research administration, data management, conflict of interest in research administration, research collaborations, human research, research integrity or other research compliance related areas is required.
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
Advanced knowledge of sponsored research regulations.
Experience should include evidence of strong project management skills.
Experience in a service organization, preferably in a higher education or research environment preferred.
An interest in business research and experience working with faculty in an academic or research environment preferred.
Additional Information:This role is offered as a hybrid (some combination of onsite and remote) where you are required to be onsite at our Boston, MA based campus 3 days per week. Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your manager.

Intellectual Property and Research Compliance:
The Director has a primary role in ensuring researcher and institutional compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations, and University, School, and HBP policies and guidelines, related to faculty research and intellectual property, safeguarding the School’s high standards for research output and the research process.
Keeps abreast of laws, regulations and practices that might impact the administration of faculty research, the use of human subjects in research and acts as an advisor on related matters.
Provides expert/seasoned guidance, dissemination, support, and/or training in the following areas of research compliance:
Federal regulations and guidelines
State regulations and guidelines
Sponsored terms and conditions
Export control; research collaborations and partnerships
Legal obligations related to sponsored research.
Research collaborations and partnerships:
In partnership with Harvard’s Office for Sponsored Programs (OSP), the Director facilitates the creation of research partnerships between HBS researchers and external organizations.
As part of the Research Administration team, the Director will work closely with the OSP’s Grants and Contracts Officer (GCO) dedicated to providing customized data use agreements support for HBS faculty.
As an experienced research compliance administrator and with a deep understanding of the research of HBS faculty, the Director will help manage transactions by bringing their expertise to bear in conversations between the HBS research teams and partnering organizations and by facilitating and monitoring information sharing, correspondence, statuses, issue resolution, and turnaround of contracts in an efficient and timely manner.
Research integrity support:
In partnership with the HBS Research Integrity Officer, the Director plays an integral role in promoting research integrity and in supporting research misconduct proceedings.
The Director plays a role in the development and delivery of the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training to the HBS research community.
Human Subject Protection Management:
The Director partners with the Assistant Director, Research Administration and Human Subjects Protection and oversees the administration of the human subjects approval process, including support for the School’s representative(s) on the University institutional review board (IRB), and the Division’s operational partnership with IRB staff.
Manages the Assistant Director in the execution of her duties.
Serves as a resource to the Assistant Director in the successful execution of her roles and in her professional development.
Fosters an environment the Assistant Director can thrive and do her best work in support of the School’s mission.
Ensures the needs of the faculty and other partners across HBS are met through the services provided.
