Sanofi Group Digital Technical Engineer - R&D Lab Notebook in Cambridge, Massachusetts
Sanofi tirelessly continues its path towards becoming a world-class biologics organization and it is expanding its capabilities in this area. The Digital R&D Department plays a key role in this strategy by delivering value-added technology solutions throughout the R&D value chain.
Within Digital R&D, the Lab Automation program contributes to the R&D digital transformation to improve research productivity and reduce drug discovery timelines with the creation of an End-to-End Research management and execution Platform, which ensures articulation between Therapeutic Areas and Platforms.
The outcomes of this program are as follows:
Automate as many data capture and registration processes as possible to reduce non-value work of scientists
Enrich data automatically with contextual metadata to raise the value of each experiment
Use technology as an enabler to automate data transfer from creation to analytics
Deploy Lab Execution System as a central tool for structured data capture with a modern UX for bench scientists
These elements will be achieved through the deployment of Benchling Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN).
The Lab Automation Program & Platform provide the digital foundation to R&D labs globally (approx. 1300 users worldwide). Deployments of the solution are ongoing and scheduled throughout 2022.
Digital technical Engineer for R&D Lab Notebook is involved in end-to-end workflows related to Benchling Core Platform. He/she works under the responsibility of the Digital R&D Product Line Manager.
Partnering with R&D scientists and Digital stakeholders, the technical Engineer:
Is accountable for day-to-day delivery of the Benchling platform and IT related components
Collaborating closely with all the other members of the team to take shared responsibility for the overall efforts that the team has committed to Benchling support and operation activities
Ensure the implementation of Benchling evolutions and adapters
Participates in agile development projects.
Interacting with users as necessary to clarify requirements, working directly with the Product Owner to clarify and further define the details of how the story should be implemented
Planning and estimating development tasks with other developers that are required to fulfill the story
Taking responsibility for the quality of the software the developer produces.
Advises users on best practices to maximize the benefit of Benchling
Ensures the monitoring of the Benchling platform according to service and operating level agreements
Ensures that Digital Products meet all controls to address applicable quality, regulatory (Data Privacy, GxP, SOX, etc.) and cybersecurity requirements
Acts as Technical and/or enforcement authority for his/her domain of expertise
Proposes and contributes to the optimization and implementation of advanced enhancement for Lab Notebook workflows and solutions
Contributes actively to Lab Notebook projects with a role of technical SME
Contributes actively to Digital operational excellence
Conducting/contributing to Problem root causes analysis management
Contributing to implementation of sustainable action plans respectively leading the implementation
Provides and guarantees a broad and strategic vision and understanding of Lab Notebook solutions and workflows
FORMAL EDUCATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
University degree in computing, computer science and/or scientific discipline.
5 years direct work experience in an IT area, preferably R&D.
Experience in Application Life Cycle Management (plan, design, build, operate).
Strong technical background.
Experience with programming languages such as various shells, Python, JSON, SQL.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication in English, presentation and organizational skills, interpersonal skills to ensure efficient relationship with all stakeholders.
Ability to work effectively in a worldwide, multicultural, multidisciplinary, matrix environment.
Experience and/or knowledge of ELN tools.
Demonstrated understanding of the processes and workflows related to R&D.
Experience in Agile / Rapid Development Life Cycle methodologies; certification preferred.
Knowledge in AWS/GCP/Azure architecture.
Willing, ready, and enthusiastic to bring digitalization to the scientific community.
Self-motivated to visit labs as needed.
