We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Scientist, Imaging to join an innovative and transformative team. In this role, you will have an opportunity to work on advanced microscopy and imaging techniques and advanced image analysis to extract quantitative robust readouts that enable project decisions. You collaborate to devise and develop analysis solutions which are grounded in the critical needs of the project team to push the drug discovery process forward and contribute to robust pipeline analysis solutions as well as drive new algorithm development on challenging analysis projects. As part of this data driven team, you interface with experimental and computational experts across the institute and collaboratively innovate to design new readouts that make positive impact on NIBR’s drug hunting. This dynamic environment of interaction between biologists, chemists, imaging scientists, and data scientists requires a collaborative and iterative approach starting from the initial pilot experiments to proof-of-concept analysis back to refinement of experimental design again. Our Microscopy and Biophotonics team develops and delivers new imaging and microscopy-based assays across a range of disease areas including neuroscience, immuno-oncology, oncology, ophthalmology, cardiovascular, and respiratory disease. What you’ll be doing: • Work with the team’s imaging experts to identify core readouts that would impact project team decisions and collaboratively develop experimental protocols for optimal quantification. • Take ownership in the implementation of image analysis approaches under a fail-fast paradigm. • Identify opportunities to automate common image analysis tasks performed by the imaging team. • Communicate results to project teams comprising scientists of diverse backgrounds. • Coordinate with IT and the department’s data science team to manage and develop necessary computational infrastructure. \n\n\n\n Position Title: Data Scientist, Imaging Minimum requirements: What you’ll bring to the role: • B.S. in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science or related quantitative field and 4+ years of relevant experience or M.S. and 2+ years of relevant experience. • Experience in analyzing biomedical imaging data, e.g., fluorescence microscopy, in vivo imaging, live-cell imaging. • Experience in Python and the use of core PyData ecosystem tools, e.g., Jupyter notebooks, Pandas, etc. • Demonstrated good software development practices such as version control, designing analyses with reproducibility and robustness in mind. • Demonstrated examples of app and pipeline building, metadata management. • Familiarity with deep learning image analysis methods, e.g., image segmentation, classification. Desirable: • PhD in biomedical engineering, computer science or related quantitative field with 0-1 years of experience. • Wet lab experience / strong biological background. • Experience in drug discovery environment. • Strong publication history devising image analysis solutions to tackle biological problems. • Experience using high performance computing (HPC) clusters or other distributed computing systems. • Experience with interactive data visualization frameworks (Streamlit, Plotly, Bokeh, HoloViews, etc.).
