Data Analytics Manager – Public Sector Environment and Climate Programs

Abt Associates seeks a Data Science Manager to work with Abt’s Environment and Natural Resources practice to identify and pursue key growth opportunities related to data science, geospatial, and analytics. This position will help build on and accelerate the growth the firm is experiencing in the public sector environment and climate markets.

Abt’s Environment portfolio is focused on prominent environment and natural resources agencies at the federal and state/local levels. The Data Science Manager will be expected to direct, organize and/or carry out data-driven advanced analytics aspects of Abt’s client projects and company initiatives, support customer engagement, demand generation, and capture proposal efforts related to AI and analytics platforms, products, and solutions. They will work with the group’s technical leaders to solve the most complex and challenging client needs.

The successful candidate will:

  • provide data science/analytics leadership on public-sector environmental projects.

  • be accomplished in a professional service setting where they are bringing innovative AI, geospatial, and data analytics capabilities to bear on clients’ unmet needs.

  • be customer- and market-facing to create new opportunities by understanding market trends and customer needs.

  • be able to visualize and present solutions, delivering technical and marketing presentations describing those solutions.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge in machine learning, geospatial, statistics, visualization, and data management to solve challenges for environmental health, climate, and natural resources clients.

  • Lead teams to develop advanced analytic use cases related to environmental health, energy, climate, water, and natural resources topics, oversee the work of other data science/analytics staff and provide guidance and mentorship.

  • Lead methodological standards and promote the use of best practices and quality standards within the department, under the direction of environment portfolio and account leaders.

  • Assist Environment portfolio and account leaders in identifying and capturing opportunities in the following domains: data science/analytics, data visualization, geospatial analytics, digital products, and application/tool development.

  • Support solution development and “demand generation” activities that define and shape new opportunities with clients for which Abt is well positioned.

  • Attend conferences and industry events to represent Abt and identify new clients/opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree + Nine years of relevant experience, or Master’s Degree + Seven years of relevant experience, or PhD + Four years of relevant experience

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $105,000 to $168,000 and may vary by ten percent depending on the candidate's geographic location. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis. This role is eligible for incentive programs such as annual bonus.
