COMMUNICATION OFFICER, School of Engineering-MIT Quest for Intelligence (The Quest), to provide an overarching communication strategy for The Quest ( Will collaborate with leadership and faculty to identify and develop communications strategies that broaden The Quest’s reach and impact; develop and refine core messages to ensure consistency with the latest research/scholarship on human and artificial intelligence; identify significant, timely technical and public policy issues that can be leveraged to support The Quest’s work and create and implement plans to incorporate them; serve as the primary contact for internal communications staff, other MIT communication staff, and the media; create, build, and maintain an online presence and global visibility; produce newsletters and write and edit features and other content; create brochures and print material; prepare reports; help oversee staff and/or vendors; collaborate on facilitation of photo sessions, video productions, etc.; manage and maintain websites for The Quest and MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab; keep current with best practices; and perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; at least five years’ professional communications experience in higher education or at a research institution; experience in science and engineering writing and working on web-based content delivery projects in a deadline-oriented, online production environment; excellent verbal and written communication, editorial, and presentation skills; experience with social media, in-print, and digital communications; familiarity with content management systems; strong problem-solving, organizational, and customer service skills; proven project management skills and evidence of professional collaborations; strong track record of positioning an organization to achieve tangible outcomes in a competitive communications environment; attention to detail; up-to-date knowledge of communication technology; and ability to cultivate/maintain productive relationships and maintain confidentiality.
