SMMA Commissioning Agent in Cambridge, Massachusetts

SMMA is seeking an experienced Commissioning Agent or self-motivated entry level professional to join SMMA?s Building Commissioning team, a talented group of engineers, architects and problem-solvers. This position involves assisting owners, engineers, and construction professionals to observe proper installation and performance of building systems. Given SMMA?s integrated and multidisciplinary composition, the role affords a chance to coordinate and work closely with staff across numerous areas of design expertise and provides exposure to a variety of project and client types.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Read Technical Documents (Construction Documents, Shop Drawings and Project Specifications)

  • Perform and produce building observation reports independently

  • Observe and report manufacturer's start-ups with detail

  • Create system verification checklists from Technical Documents

  • Create and execute functional performance tests for building systems commissioning

  • Administer SMMA?s commissioning data base

  • Other related commissioning activities

  • Attend project meetings, initially in support of senior commissioning agents

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years? experience in building systems commissioning or HVAC design

  • Bachelor?s degree or two-year Technical degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience

  • Experience with direct digital building automation and control systems a plus

  • Strong experience in Microsoft Excel

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Public speaking skills

  • Technical writing skills

  • Must have the ability to take direction, listen and follow through

  • Self-motivated to research the task at hand and ask questions when needed

  • Must possess a valid driver?s license for travel to project sites

  • Access to personal automobile a plus

  • Must be comfortable working on active construction sites and using digital tools to work outside of the office
