Position Number: FY24-35 Application Deadline: 27 April 2024; Open Until Filled The Schooner Ernestina-Morrissey and Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA) are seeking applicants for the position of Community Outreach and Education Coordinator, for the National Landmark SSV Ernestina-Morrissey. This is a full-time benefited position with Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Under the direction of the Captain and the Dean of Undergraduate Studies, the Community Outreach and Education Coordinator (Outreach Coordinator) will oversee the creation, implementation, and coordination of both MMA and partner-developed shipboard programs and assist in the ship?s operations and training/education of the crew, cadets, trainees, students and volunteers. The Outreach Coordinator will serve as a primary liaison with regional, local and community partners and help develop and coordinate seasonal, year-long and multiyear scheduling of the ship?s education and outreach programs with these partners. The Coordinator will also assist the Captain with Financial / Budget management and grant writing and fundraising efforts. As a key member of the shipboard and office team, the Outreach Coordinator will inspire excellence in Ernestina-Morrissey?s program delivery, while providing leadership to develop and achieve growth goals. The Schooner Ernestina-Morrissey is owned by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and operated by the Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA) as a USCG inspected Sailing School Vessel (Subchapter R) and a Small Passenger Vessel (Subchapter T) home ported in New Bedford, MA. General Statement Of Duties: Create, develop, support, and implement MMA and partner-developed educational programs aboard the Schooner Ernestina-Morrissey, in collaboration with the ship?s Captain and crew, MMA staff, and community partners. Prepare and regularly update a comprehensive educational program development plan that addresses educational programs and partnerships throughout the State of Massachusetts Evaluate and refine education programs and curricula on a regular basis. Manage and train onboard educational staff and students. Oversee the process of scheduling programs in collaboration with the Captain and Chief Mate. Initiate, nurture, and maintain relationships with community partners, local organizations, and partner programs. Recruit, train, and manage volunteers to assist with onboard programs and shipboard maintenance. Maintain educational supplies and equipment. Assist with port details including, scheduling, transportation planning, and logistics. Work closely with MMA Social Media staff to create, post and monitor Social Media outreach, confirming they are in line with MMA marketing and image requirements. Organize and plan special events and marketing efforts with other MMA staff and partner organizations. Assist the Captain with purchasing, budget management, fund-raising and grant writing. Specific minimum Qualifications and Requirements: Hold a Bachelor?s Degree from an accredited institution. Have experience developing educational programs and teaching in formal or informal classrooms. Have experience implementing curriculum and familiarity with best practices in experiential place-based education. Demonstrate excellent computer skills, including Google Suite and social media content. Display outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Exhibit strong organizational skills, with the ability to effectively multitask. Have previous experience with sailing, maritime history, and/or education on tall ships prpreferred. Demonstrate teamwork and flexibility. Preferred Qualifications: Have nonprofit education program experience aboard tall ships. Experience working with diverse populations is highly valued. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development and/or the modeling of inclusive behaviors.
