Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Infrastructure Major Projects group has an immediate need for a talented, team focused Senior Civil Engineer - Utilities with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in utility system design with site or roadway design, or design coordination experience a plus. The position is location is flexible within Stantec offices in North America and includes hybrid work.

We are looking for an energized, driven individual ready to challenge themselves on a variety of large traditional as well as Alterative Project Delivery (APD), including design bid build, design build, progressive design build, P3, and alliance transportation and site infrastructure projects across North America. Projects range from large transportation highway and interchange projects, transit, rail and multimodal projects, and major private development projects. You will interact internally throughout the organization and externally with clients to conceptualize and develop utility designs that enhance infrastructure reliability, sustainability, and resilience.

This position is for an individual looking to lead technical design teams, coach and mentor junior engineers, build and maintain client relationships, and effectively represent Stantec at industry conferences, client meetings, and public events.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of utilities, roadway, grading, stormwater/drainage, and other key elements of civil engineering projects, including major APD projects.

  • Oversee the design of water, sewer, stormwater/drainage, gas, steam, electrical, and communication-data systems with a focus on conflict avoidance and maintenance or expansion of services.

  • Lead and review model-based design of complex utility relocations, including construction phasing and sequencing.

  • Coach and mentor junior civil engineers on a variety of projects.

  • Coordination with public/private utilities regarding relocations and maintaining systems during design and construction.

  • Review design drawings, calculations, models, technical specifications, and construction cost estimates for conformance with client standards and industry best practices.

  • Prepare engineering reports and technical studies such as Basis of Design documents and memorandums to support the project approval process.

  • Collaborate with team members, other disciplines, and subconsultants.

  • Perform field investigations and construction phase services support.

  • Provide input to project schedule, scope, budget, and staffing assignments.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Ability to lead a technical team through all project phases from concept through project close-out during construction.

  • Proven track record successfully delivering work products on time, within budget, and within scope of work.Pro-active get it done attitude, strong attention to detail, punctual, reliable, and organized.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills in both office and virtual environments.

  • Working knowledge of local, regional, and national design standards, a plus

  • Demonstrated proficiency with model based 3D design using AutoCAD or Bentley design software.

  • Experience with ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Collector, and AutoCAD BIM for Utility Infrastructure a plus.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), or ability to become registered is required.

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in utility system design required
