We are currently seeking a Sr. Staff Embedded Software Engineer (Cyber Security Specialty) to join our growing engineering team at our Innovation Center - New England (ICNE)located in the Greater Boston Area.

This position will ensure that our applications and infrastructure are designed and implemented to the highest standards thus maintaining and enhancing customer trust. We are looking for an individual that enjoys analyzing and architecting system services, operating systems, networks and applications from a security perspective. If you are skilled at discovering security issues that appear under new threat scenarios, this position will provide you with a challenging opportunity. You will participate in security audits, define and drive adoption of secure development best practices and system risk analysis.

The selected individual will be is strong in multiple domains and versatile. A successful candidate will need a combination of technical and communication skills, as well as the ability to multi-task with responsibilities to include threat modeling and project work.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with teams to carry out Application Security Reviews for both home grown, and Commercially Off-The-Shelf (COTs) services and applications

  • Facilitate threat modelling exercises, risk identification and seek resolution when confronted with discordant views

  • Proactively and continually improve your level of knowledge about Aerovironment Inc. business, information security, the threat landscape and relevant technologies.

  • Provide expert advice and consultancy to internal customers on risk assessment, threat modelling and fixing vulnerabilities

  • Design, implement and support security-focused tools and services to automate security operations

  • Develop training materials for general security awareness and specific security technology training

  • Participate in efforts to promote security awareness throughout the company.

  • Leverage scripting and automation tools to streamline security operations tasks (vulnerability detection, monitoring and remediation deployment)

Required Qualifications and Background

  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card Holder) required due to ITAR

  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent required.

  • Minimum of 12-15 years of experience with any combination of the following: threat modeling experience, identity management and authentication, architecture review, software development, cryptography, and system administration.

  • Intermediate knowledge and understanding of security engineering, system and network security, secure coding, penetration testing or application security

  • Detailed knowledge of system security vulnerabilities and remediation techniques, including penetration testing and the development of exploits

  • Knowledge of network and web related protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP, IPSEC, HTTP, HTTPS, routing protocols)

  • Experience with multiple programming languages (such as, Java, C++, Ruby, Python, Perl, etc.)

  • Experience with Git, or other version control systems

  • Security Certification – GSEC, Security+, SCCP, CEH

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills. Strong listening, questioning, clarifying and summarizing skills to effectively communicate in one-on-one and small group settings.

  • Scripting experience preferred (such as Python, Ruby, Shell/Bash, PowerShell, etc.)

  • Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive

  • A willingness to travel, on occasion

ITAR Requirement:

This position requires the use of information which is subject to compliance with International Traffic Arms Regulations (ITAR). To conform to U.S. Government export regulations/ITAR, applicants must be a U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S. (or, green card holder), protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
