Position Summary
CVS Health is on a mission to transform healthcare. With a shared vision to make healthier easier, we are investing in new ways to care for our communities, built on the foundation of our brick-and-mortar footprint. In this environment, success for the Retail business depends on well-designed and effectively governed roles and responsibilities in the stores and field support ecosystem. As our business evolves, roles and responsibilities in the stores and field must adapt and change to drive outcomes and unlock value for the organization. As we seek to strengthen operational outcomes while providing meaningful work that differentiates us from other retail employers, empowering our people with the appropriate roles, responsibilities, and career pathing plays a critical role to business success.
The Senior Manager, Workforce Governance, understands the operational business context, and governs existing and new roles and responsibilities appropriately to improve a range of performance outcomes. Through strong oversight and direction-setting, this leader ensures that existing leadership roles (e.g., District Support Pharmacist Leader, District Support Training Manager, Pharmacy Manager, Lead Technician, Store Manager, Operations Manager, Shift Supervisor, etc.) are well-defined, with tangible, trackable performance objectives and KPIs. In addition, this leader systematically identifies, validates, prioritizes, tests, and scales new roles, while also supporting the sunsetting of obsolete roles, to support the necessary evolution of the business. As part of this effort, the Senior Manager may oversee and/or inform pilots, with end-to-end responsibility for pilot design, field engagement, execution, outcomes analysis, and final business case and recommendations. Finally, the Senior Manager partners across Operations and HR functions to develop and promote a career pathing strategy that retains and develops internal talent while attracting growth-oriented talent from the broader market.
Success in this endeavor requires regular and proactive engagement with cross-functional leaders (including Director and above) to establish a Retail people vision and bring change to life. Driven by curiosity and with an appetite to deliver tangible, trackable outcomes, the Senior Manager is comfortable leveraging qualitative and quantitative insights to identify, prioritize, and address opportunities. With a deep respect for first-hand knowledge, this person leverages direct and indirect feedback from the field—including intentional store/market visits and job shadowing—to challenge their own preconceptions and validate hypotheses and recommendations. Strong business acumen, including the ability to propose and model variations on investments, is essential for success. The Senior Manager must be a highly accountable, self-driven leader, who is able to operate in the gray, while providing clear direction to a team of contributors.
