Wellforce Executive Vice President, Chief Strategy Officer in Burlington, Massachusetts

Wellforce seeks a dynamic EVP, Chief Strategy Officer to work with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and system leadership team to develop and execute a robust strategic plan to effectively inspire the workforce, while positioning the organization for strategic success. This includes plans for new ventures with partners, including payers; enhancing the growth of existing and new lines of business; and work across all aspects of the organization to ensure it is in the best position to meet its strategic, service and financial goals. This position will work closely with Wellforce’s C-Suite team (including entity leaders) to provide thought leadership on existing strategies and to develop new strategies consistent with the mission and goals of the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the areas of strategic planning, marketing and communications, payer relations, mergers and acquisitions and business development. Focus on achieving results consistent with the strategic plan, ensuring the sustainability of new business lines to better serve the needs of the target populations which promote Wellforce’s leadership role in economic development and impact investing.

  • Identify, evaluate, and gain consensus for development of new or expansion of current inpatient and/or outpatient services and programs based on lack of current supply, quality, growth and/or service in the market.

  • Identify and lead initiatives to grow revenue, including cross-business unit market opportunities and innovative new service offerings, for Strategic Education to acquire or grow organically. Develop and implement metrics to measure performance and progress towards strategic goals, ensuring that strategic actions are completed at various levels to achieve desired results.

  • Collaborate with leadership across the system to integrate and implement our strategic initiatives and ensure our plans, investments, partnerships and affiliations are effectively executed to realize the intended outcomes. Lead system efforts and identify potential synergies and organizational integration strategies.

  • Accountable for building the organizational structure, leadership and future team that will propel Wellforce’s success. Focus on identifying, developing and implementing projects and initiatives to staff; on-board, develop, motivate, assess, retain and organize our talent who ultimately enable profitable growth of our system.

  • Build targeted performance objectives and priorities for provider outreach which identifies opportunities for greater collaboration to achieve common goals of better serving our shared patients. Identify outreach partners across the care continuum, and develop strategies and metrics while monitoring progress to plan. Ensure community, physician and longitudinal care partners are aware and involved in new initiatives.

  • Plan, organize and direct strategies that develop physician relationships and physician manpower plans consistent with facility service line plans and community need.

  • Proven strategy development and execution competence and be comfortable working in a values-driven organization that operates at the intersection of academic and community hospitals, physicians and potential new/disruptive partners. Provide coaching to key functional partners on performance feedback, leadership development and conflict management.

  • Responsible for market intelligence; identify and establish joint ventures and pursue new business opportunities that expand Wellforce’s geographic footprint beyond the existing market boundaries. Make recommendations on new market opportunities including sizing and assessing markets, identifying the risk/benefits of opportunities and implications.

  • Support efforts around clinical integration, population health initiatives, capital planning (with Chief Finance Officer).

  • Demonstrate strong personal credibility with strong values and a collaborative, transparent leadership style with the ability to effectively lead projects and people – whether or not in their direct sphere of control.

  • Responsible to ensure physician and hospital alignment to reduce costs, improve quality and patient experience and financial performance.

  • Update strategic plan annually as part of a cycle to inform operating plans, capital and operating budgets and short and long-term organizational goals.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in healthcare related field, preferably business administration, marketing, or a closely related field

  • JD, MBA, or MD degree highly preferred

  • Mature strategic/business development executive with 10+ years of experience, including substantial experience in a senior management role developing and implementing new business and growth strategies in a nimble and entrepreneurial environment.

  • Proven leadership track record overseeing transformational changes from innovation through implementation while working collaboratively across a diverse stakeholder population to create sustained value.

  • Experience in a consulting leadership position or in a transformation leadership position of a large organization; knowledge and experience working in the healthcare industry preferred.

  • Proven experience in developing a strategy and driving tangible results across teams in an ambiguous environment while leveraging data from a multitude of sources to tell a story and impact the overarching strategy.

  • Effective collaboration with hospital and department leaders to develop strategic service lines ensuring physician engagement which achieve desired results in quality, service, operations and financial metrics.

  • Knowledge of continuous quality improvement processes and the ability to apply them to varied activities.
