BAMSI Compliance Coordinator in Brockton, Massachusetts

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Under the direction of the VP of Quality and Improvement (also the “Compliance Officer”), the Compliance Coordinator works within BAMSI’s OpEx (Operational Excellence) program (including the daily management of the corporate compliance program to facilitate compliance with the Code of Ethics, policies, procedures, and other adopted standards (i.e., regulations, rules, laws, guidelines)) within BAMSI’s Quality System (BMS). The Compliance Coordinator will promote operational excellence and the execution of BAMSI programs and operations in a way that maximizes benefit to persons served. The Compliance Coordinator will demonstrate subject matter expertise within their domain, ensuring BAMSI employees and partners comply with adopted BAMSI standards, and serve as an extension of the Compliance Officer on matters of governance, risk, compliance, and privacy.

Dashboard Development

  1. Maintain and further develop the corporate compliance program dashboard to efficiently track and report on information (including projects, processes, events, dates, measures, etc.) impacting BAMSI’s compliance.

  2. Utilize the corporate compliance program dashboard to support BAMSI’s further development of compliance and privacy measures and improve BAMSI performance.

  3. Report out on compliance and privacy trends observed on dashboard to Executive Team members, programs, and departments as needed.

  4. Utilize dashboard and other data and informational sources to monitor BAMSI activities for compliance and privacy issues and related corrective actions.

Compliance and Privacy

  1. Support BAMSI’s Strategic Plan and the Corporate Compliance Program Plan (including their update, further development, and full implementation).

  2. Support agency compliance with regulations, rules, and laws to sustain DDS, DMS, and DPH licensing as applicable.

  3. Help coordinate CARF accreditation preparation and sustaining CARF standards agency-wide as applicable.

  4. Collaborate with Learning and Development Department on courses to ensure compliance and privacy subject matter is current.

  5. Serve as a daily contact to and point of escalation for employees and other parties regarding information or activities that may be deemed or suspected to be illegal, illicit, unsafe, fraudulent, or abusive.

  6. Work with Quality Data and Data Analytics to develop compliance and privacy trends, including data collection, analysis, trending, and reporting.

  7. Schedule and conduct compliance internal audit (CIA) each year across the agency.

  8. Oversee and coordinate the review and response to requests for BAMSI protected health information (PHI) and other confidential information across the agency regardless of form.

  9. Track and update information regarding legal proceedings or pre-litigation events involving persons served.

Event Report and Incident Communications (ERIC)

  1. Review each event report and incident communication for compliance and privacy issues, and for follow up.

  2. Participate in the performance risk assessment of and report out on event report and incident communications.

  3. Collaborate with Performance Risk Review and Program Performance within OpEx to address issues and concerns that arise from their individual or collective assessments.

  4. In collaboration with the Performance Risk Review Coordinator and other parties, objectively review events and incidents to collect and document relevant facts so that management can make informed decisions.

Governance

  1. Coordinate the review, further development or update, and distribution of the Code of Business Conduct.

  2. Report compliance and privacy trends on a quarterly basis to the Quality Council (and others as needed).

  3. Review the Board of Director slides to ensure compliance and privacy trends are included and current.

Policy Management

  1. Coordinate quarterly policy committee, including working with administration on scheduling, agenda preparation, and information distribution.

  2. Support and participate in the policy committee workgroups.

  3. Coordinate agency-wide annual policy review, update, and distribution process.

Other Related Duties

  1. Provide individualized compliance and privacy training to a BAMSI employee as needed.

  2. Ability and willingness to travel across Massachusetts to programs and facilities as needed and scheduled.

  3. Attend required meetings and trainings.

  4. Serve on various committees and workgroups as assigned.

  5. Perform other related work duties as needed or as assigned by supervisor or designee.

  6. Efficiently conduct research online and offline as needed.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or higher with significant relevant work experience in compliance and privacy, including Compliance Internal Audit in healthcare may be considered.

• More than 2-years’ experience in a human services organization, including mental health, substance use disorder program, or healthcare.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills (including presenting) required.

• Must have valid driver’s license in state of residence and own means of transportation.

• Intermediate Proficiency in information and technological systems including but not limited to Microsoft Office 365.

• Experience and comfort writing internal reports.

• Ability to travel as needed.

• Ability to work remotely or in office as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree plus 2 to 4 years in a compliance role.

• Three (3) years’ experience in human services background and experience in data and information management with medical terminology familiarity of clinical issues.

• Highly self-motivated, able to work independently, and able to manage competing priorities.

• Quality and Improvement experience, including Six Sigma and Lean disciplines in a healthcare environment.

• Experience with DDS, DPH, DMH, CARF, and other licensing and accreditation disciplines.

Other Required Qualifications

• Understanding of and commitment to maintaining absolute confidentiality of all department and agency information.

• High degree of professionalism, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in a team environment across the agency regardless of department, program, or function.

• Experience successfully coordinating (or leading) projects.
