Responsibilities

  • Provides technical leadership, trains, and mentors less senior staff to support business initiatives and strategic goals, and evaluates or troubleshoots problems. Transfers knowledge/ technology solutions within or across groups.

  • Translates customer needs into mechanical designs which meet cost and quality goals selecting and recommending best methods. Defines criteria for success based on interworking with marketing and operations.

  • Will act as a technical expert, lead projects, and work with support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing, preparation of verification test protocols and reports, and prototype fabrication.

  • Applies knowledge in a broad range of topics within mechanical engineering, reflecting in-depth knowledge of at least two sub-specialty areas relating to electromechanical design.

  • Requires project management and systems knowledge/skills and basic business understanding.

  • May lead technical research, feasibility studies, and testing of new and modified designs in areas such as materials, measurement, fluidics, and electronics.

  • Understands relevant IP landscape and generates creative, innovative solutions which may lead to patentable ideas and products.

  • Serves in an advisory role at the management, or senior management level, proposing technical solutions to resolve business issues, and evaluates short and long-term impact.

  • Interfaces with customers, suppliers, sales, and customer support, and works on a national, regional or global basis.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or equivalent combination of training and experience

  • 5-7 years’ experience in new product development for electromechanical systems

  • 2-3 years' experience leading an engineering team

  • Demonstrated ability to lead electromechanical designs displaying creativity, innovation, and leadership.

  • Basic understanding of electronics, PCBA, and enclosure design.

  • Understanding of UL and IP standards

  • Experience with mechanical analysis (e.g. FEA)

  • Knowledge of materials and metal processes (i.e. machining, casting, brazing, soldering, fastening, assembly, fabrication)

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as Solidworks
