As the Manufacturing Engineer – Contract Manufacturing, you will be tasked with supporting the planning and implementation of new products into manufacturing and production engineering from initial design stage to ongoing series production. The ideal candidate possesses outstanding problem-solving skills, is detail and process-oriented, and demonstrates strong collaboration skills in team situations. Key deliverables for the position are to drive improvements and sustainment of the metrics established for Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost on both sustaining product and new opportunities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design and develop manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods, and production equipment, documents processes via work instructions and trains team to standards.

  • Support the contract manufacturing team in resolving issues identified during production.

  • Design, develop, and qualify poka-yoke and fixturing strategies to be used in reducing process variation in assembly processes.

  • Develop and implement process improvements related to cycle time reduction, cost reduction, and other activities by reducing/eliminating non-value-added activities.

  • Provide feedback to engineering on new designs with a focus on ensuring Design for Manufacturability and Design for Reliability.

  • Participate in design review and review/approve part drawings from engineering.

  • Act as customer advocate when addressing quality issues by applying problem solving techniques to strive to root cause / corrective action for any escapes.

  • Support the Engineering Change Order (ECO) system from generation through implementation.

  • Establish control plans/charts to monitor part and process performance and apply data to drive priorities and improvements in manufacturing.

  • Perform first article inspections/qualification of internally machined and supplied parts as needed.

  • Implement AQL-driven sampling plans and methods to ensure part compliance and drive supplier accountability

    Required Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or related technical field.

  • Proven experience as a manufacturing engineer or in a technical related role

  • Proven knowledge of manufacturing, engineering, quality tools and techniques, including: FMEA, Design for Manufacturability (DfM), Statistical Process Control, and variation reduction.

  • Kaizen and/or Lean Manufacturing experience.

  • Proficient with mechanical inspection using hand tools, calipers, force gauges, etc.

  • Excellent digital literacy (CAD & ERP skills also a benefit)

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office

  • SolidWorks and/or ProE drawing and modeling proficiency effective.

    Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Ability to grow into a leadership role on the team

  • Experience in machining and/or precision mechanical assembly.

  • Direct experience or solid understanding of CMM inspection equipment.

  • A sound understanding with ISO 9001 and/or ISO 13485 standards

  • Medical device, biotech or pharmaceutical experience will be helpful

  • Understanding of regulatory requirements related to RoHS and REACH.

  • Experience in NPI, design transfer and manufacturing establishment of low volume products

  • Experience with complex electromechanical instrument or development manufacture and supply would be favorable
