Institute for Healthcare Improvement Vice President, Clinical Operating Syste in Boston, Massachusetts

IHI is seeking a Vice President, Clinical Operating Systems (COS) to lead development and implementation of a new business line at IHI, the Clinical Operating System concept, to actuate data-driven workflows that radically improve quality/safety patient outcomes, enhance patient and workforce experience, and redefine value-based care. This vision will be achieved by integrating consulting practices, improvement methodologies, and technology platforms across hospitals and health systems. The Vice President, COS will lead development of the concept, including strategic planning, intellectual property development, the related business plan(s), partnerships with technology provider(s), and other related objectives as defined by Management. IHI intends to invest in the development of the COS and following business plan approval, the Vice President, COS will lead the start-up and operations of implementation support, including relationship development, integration of customer perspectives into designs, development of business proposals, and building a team to drive results. Position Responsibilities: Strategy and Tactics Development Collaborate with leadership to define and execute the COS vision, aims, strategy, objectives, and measures Develop business plan(s) for the IHI COS in collaboration with related operations teams, including a staffing model with defined roles/positions Create the intellectual property to support the product(s), including but not limited to instructional materials, methods, training materials, and change packages Define the results and evaluation methodology within the COS Create the profile, selection criteria, and lead the identification and recruitment process of all third-party faculty and partners necessary to engage in development of this business line, working closely with leadership for ultimate selection and partnering agreement(s) Support the development and negotiations of any legal agreements in collaboration with the Chief Financial and Administration Officer and external IHI legal counsel Implementation Team Leadership Upon Management\'s approval of the business plan, develop the COS implementation support team Working with IHI Human Resources, recruit and hire the approved staff/faculty necessary to support the work defined in the business plan Develop role-specific work-plans for team members that support customer engagement, gap analysis processes, and customized services to address customer needs for COS implementation Execute the COS business plan within committed timeline and budget Relationship and Business Development: Identify prospective customers, convert customers and maintain and grow their business with IHI Establish a business line and practice area for the organization Work with IHI marketing on sales and marketing materials Move promising business opportunities forward using IHI\'s program development processes Participate in vetting and decision-making around new business opportunities for both IHI-initiated programming and grant- and contract-funded work Develop and support mutually rewarding and satisfying relationships with leading faculty able to advance the quality and reach of IHI\'s work Champion the COS internally and externally, serving as a spokesperson Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Clinical Operations Systems Leadership and Improvement Extensive experience working and progressing from frontline caregiving to leadership positions in hospital settings Entrepreneurial drive and ability to comfortably identify and create innovative solutions to complex and ambiguous health system challenges Health system leadership competencies, particularly high-level influence and negotiation skills Proven ability to improve results for patients and staff within hospitals and/or health systems Ability to understand technology needs and detailed requirements and work with technology vendors
