VMware Technical Product Manager -Carbon Black Security - Opportunity for Working Remotely in Boston, Massachusetts

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

Within your first 30 days:

  • You will learn the current software development lifecycle phases and define where you can add value in each phase.

  • You will shadow TPMs and UX teams on calls with engineering, customers, and product management.

  • You will review product requirement documents and product backlog (things in the design phase) and understand strategic initiatives in progress.

Within 180 days:

  • You will be working closely with your peer product managers in your product strategy areas, advising them on product requirements and design.

  • You will be deciding when an Early Access Program is necessary and defining and running the Early Access Program, providing feedback to Product Management and engineering.

  • You will be working with UX designers and researchers to define what we need to learn from our customer and prospect base.

  • You will be participating in engineering ops meetings for your initiatives, advising

  • You will be working with technical marketing to enable the field and our customers as new features and products are released.

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • Advise your PM Strategy Lead as regards ideation, prioritization, and execution of initiatives, and guides how you operate, influence, vote and veto within Product Management’s SDLC and other governing and decision-making processes.

  • Work closely within your Strategy as a peer with Product Managers, UX Designers and Researchers, Engineering Architects and Leads, your fellow TPM’s, and senior leadership where appropriate, to intensely focus on how the product is designed, will be constructed, will be used and operated, and to help validate design and operation at various stages before the release.

  • Since cybersecurity principles can sometimes be unfamiliar and unintuitive to others, challenge ideas and assumptions in the group using your deep knowledge as security practitioners.

  • Collaborate as a key stakeholder for your Strategy on Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) and answer questions, clarify requirements, and ensure that developed solutions solve problems identified in the PRD.

  • Share common perspective and situational awareness with your fellow TPM’s so that, as a team, you can ensure mission and practices alignment and synchronicity of execution across all Strategies.

  • Generate draft internal training content, which will then be progressed and curated by TMM, for the products and features within your strategy, within an appropriate time frame before general release.

  • Specifically, as part of the validation process, be formally responsible for recruiting customer participants for and running the logistics of Early Access Programs (EAP), as well as tracking, interpreting, and reporting the feedback coming from those programs.

  • Where and when appropriate, attend industry conferences and tradeshows, and deliver technical presentations and content.

  • Where and when appropriate, assist with the facilitation of SBU customer technical advisory boards, namely CTAB, and research on customer perspectives.

What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

The hiring manager for this position is Lorie Stull, Manager of Technical Product Management. Lorie has over 6 years’ experience with VMware Carbon Black in sales engineering and technical product management and over 20 years’ experience in software development, datacom/telecom, network and endpoint security. As a manager her focus is on helping each member of the team be successful and providing opportunities to add the skills and experience necessary to reach their career goals.

The team culture is collaborative, candid, and mutually trusting. We seek different perspectives and experiences to add to the culture. In addition to other members of the TPM team, you’ll be working cross-functionally with product managers, engineers, UX/UI designers, and technical marketing.

Where is this role located?

Remote: this role is fully remote and can be done anywhere in the US. You have the option of working in a VMware office but the teams are geographically dispersed.
