Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Civil Underground Superintendent to oversee the day-to-day operations of civil construction projects, including multiple-circuit duct bank work in large urban environments. The ideal candidate will bring leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to safety and quality, ensuring that all projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Supervision: Lead and supervise a team of foremen and craft professionals. Ensure all personnel are properly trained and equipped to perform their duties effectively and safely.
Project Management: Collaborate with operations leadership to plan and organize activities, including scheduling, budgeting, and coordinating resources. Monitor progress and adjust plans as necessary to meet project deadlines and budget goals.
Site Oversight: Be the primary point of contact on-site for the project, ensuring that all activities align with project scope, specifications, and safety standards. Visit project sites to assess conditions and resolve any issues.
Safety Compliance: Implement site-specific health and safety plans and ensure adherence to company safety policies, OSHA guidelines, and other regulatory requirements. Promote a culture of safety and ensure that all safety protocols are followed.
Communication & Coordination: Act as the liaison between owners, general contractors, subcontractors and vendors. Represent the company in project meetings, strategy discussions, and client interactions. Resolve work-related problems and ensure effective communication at all levels.
Quality Control & Reporting: Oversee the implementation of quality control programs and ensure that work meets the required standards. Prepare regular reports on project progress, costs, and scheduling.
Subcontractor & Vendor Management: Negotiate revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors. Ensure that all vendor and subcontractor payments are reviewed and processed in a timely manner.
Risk Management & Problem Solving: Identify potential risks to project timelines, budgets, and quality, and develop strategies to mitigate them. Address any issues related to construction methods, work procedures, or site conditions.
Documentation & Scheduling: Maintain accurate project records, including daily progress, change orders and all other documentation. Ensure that all project-related documents are up-to-date and easily accessible.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum of 5-8 years of relevant civil construction experience, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory role. Extensive experience in civil duct bank work and underground utility installation.
Technical Knowledge: Strong technical understanding of underground utilities, site grading, earthworks, and construction methods. Familiarity with industry standards and codes.
Software Skills: Proficiency in construction software (e.g., HCSS, GPS equipment) and standard office applications (Word, Excel, etc.).
Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, develop, and motivate a team. Strong management skills with an ability to solve problems and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively present plans and updates to internal and external stakeholders.
Safety & Compliance: In-depth knowledge of safety regulations and best practices. Demonstrated ability to enforce safety protocols and maintain a safe work environment.
