Number of Positions: 1 Position: Seasonal - Shorebird Conservation Field Technician(Planning Assistant) Location: Carson Beach State Reservation Start Date: 3/27/2022 End date: 8/13/2022 Please note, if you are selected for this position and will be working less than 90 days, the position will automatically revert to a short-term position. Our short-term positions are not part of the salary scale that is advertised within this job posting. Should this position revert to a short-term seasonal position (less than 90 days), your salary rate will be discussed with you during the interview phase of the process. The Department of Conservation and Recreation manages one of the largest and most diverse state parks systems in the nation and protects and enhances natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts. DCR is a dynamic agency, and is one of the largest park systems in the nation. The DCR system includes over 450,000 acres of parks, forests, water supply protection lands, beaches, lakes, ponds, playgrounds, swimming pools, skating rinks, golf courses, trails and parkways. The Department of Conservation and Recreation is seeking qualified candidates for the position ofShorebird Conservation Field Technician(Planning Assistant). This position collects, analyzes, and reviews biological data through field work on endangered and threatened shorebird species and other features of biological diversity; provides technical assistance and information to the public and other staff; helps the agency in maintaining compliance with environmental laws and regulations; and performs related work as required. Specific Duties & Responsibilities: * Collects and reviews biological data through field work on nesting, foraging and migrating species of shorebirds including abundance and distribution of target species * Assists in management of databases including abundance, productivity and behavioral data, and create GIS/Google Earth maps of coastal natural resources * Accomplish the wildlife management, protection, and education objectives of the Shorebird Conservation Program * Provides biological technical assistance to park-based operations staff * Conduct research on special projects as directed * Other tasks as directed * Schedule is variable and includes weekends, holidays and occasionally evenings. Qualifications - External First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days. * * Minimum Entrance Requirements: * Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time or equivalent part-time, professional, paraprofessional or technical experience in work involving the protection, conservation and/or management of endangered and protected shorebird species, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. * Substitution: Education toward a Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in biology, ecology, natural resources management, zoology, ornithology, may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of two years of education for one year of experience. Special Requirements: Based on assignment, possession of a Personal Reliable Vehicle and a current and valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license are required* * Executive Order #595: As a condition of employment, successful applicants will be required to have received COVID-19 vaccination or an approved exemption as of their start date.
