Validity Sr. Revenue Manager in Boston, Massachusetts

About the Role

Validity is seeking a Sr. Manager of Revenue Operations who will report directly to the Assistant Controller and will manage all aspects of the quote to cash and revenue accounting processes. The Senior Manager of Revenue Operations will manage the revenue accounting, billing, and collection teams. The Senior Manager of Revenue Operations will be responsible for establishing, maintaining, and applying the Company?s revenue recognition policies in accordance with ASC 606. The Revenue Manager will act as a key partner to the business ? working closely with the sales, sales operations, customer operations, legal and financial planning teams to provide guidance on revenue and working capital impacting terms and to help structure and review deals to optimize revenue, quote to cash and comply with revenue recognition. The Senior Manager of Revenue Operations will also be responsible for monitoring and effectively managing accounts receivable and maximizing the efficiency of the quote to cash process. The Senior Manager of Revenue Operations will also manage and evaluate the adequacy and estimate of the allowance for doubtful accounts. The Senior Manager of Revenue Operations will be responsible for the monthly revenue and accounts receivable close processes including reviewing customer contracts, deferred revenue, revenue, costs to obtain contracts, accounts receivable, allowances, and working with the team to complete the related account reconciliations. The Senior Manager of Revenue Operations will prepare monthly revenue, deferred revenue and accounts receivable reporting and prepare all the related financial statement disclosures. This role will have significant cross-functional interaction.

Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain the Company?s revenue recognition policy, including deferred costs, and the allowance for doubtful accounts policy and estimate.

  • Consult with specialists, as needed, regarding technical accounting matters.

  • Review business processes and customer contracts to ensure accurate and consistent application of revenue recognition policies in accordance with ASC 606 and document related conclusions.

  • Partner with sales, sales operations, customer operations, and legal in contract negotiations and provide suggestions and recommendations to optimize revenue, quote to cash, and comply with revenue recognition.

  • Manage and/or prepare timely and accurate reconciliations for all revenue and related accounts, balance sheet accounts including deferred revenue, contract assets and liabilities, capitalized contract costs, accounts receivable, and allowance for doubtful accounts.

  • Ensure proper allocation of transaction price to identified performance obligations.

  • Perform periodic updates to accounting estimates and judgments required in the application of ASC 606.

  • Prepare revenue and accounts receivable related financial statement disclosures and assist in the preparation of ad-hoc reporting requests, as needed.

  • Serve as the key contact for all revenue and accounts receivable audit requests and inquiries.

  • Reconcile bookings, billings and revenue on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc basis.

  • Assist with the design, implementation, execution, and on-going monitoring of order to cash and revenue recognition related to internal controls.

  • Provide on-going cross-functional training on revenue recognition and best practices and serve as a subject matter expert for revenue recognition and payment terms and conditions.

Required Experience/Skills

  • Expert-level knowledge of ASC 606 with the ability to quickly assess contracts for revenue-impacting terms including identifying performance obligations, accounting for material rights and variable consideration, and preparing revenue-related position papers/memos and financial statement disclosures.

  • Significant experience performing technical accounting research and writing accounting policy memos.

  • Demonstrated ability to consistently work within fixed timeframes and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong communication skills and desire to work cross-functionally to achieve common goals.

  • Attention to detail and ability to produce an accurate, timely work product.

  • Highly level of proficiency in Excel.

  • Collaborative team player with high standards and ethics.

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment and manage several tasks simultaneously.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to engage with stakeholders in the contracting process in a professional and respectful manner, working with them on solutions or upholding policy as necessary.

  • Ability to work independently and make judgment-based decisions with a good sense for when escalation and additional communication may be necessary.

  • Independent, self-starter willing to think outside of the box and influence change, and to be proactive in implementing process improvements.

  • Desire to work in a high growth, fast-paced, and constantly evolving environment.

Preferred Experience/Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.

  • CPA.

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in applying revenue recognition principles in a SaaS company environment with a Big 4 public accounting firm.

  • 2+ years of experience at a SaaS company.

  • Experience designing, implementing, executing, and monitoring revenue-related controls.

  • Experience with NetSuite or similar ERP system.

  • Experience with revenue recognition systems.
