This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Sr. Project Manager for our Boston, MA office. Be involved in projects with our Transit and Rail Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

WSP has an immediate opening for a Senior Project Manager, to join our management team helping oversee the Commuter Rail Resiliency Program in the metro Boston, MA, a large, complex, high profile commuter rail fiber optic construction effort. WSP is part of the MBTA team providing PM/CM services. The successful candidate will possess demonstrated construction management and inspection experience, an understanding of the owner representative role acting as advisor, with the versatility to oversee and manage supporting engineering, project controls and administrative staff, while coordinating with quality assurance, and safety professionals.

Provide regional and/or multi-sector leadership to ensure transit and rail engineering subject matter, technical deliverables, infrastructure projects and programs are delivered with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality. Responsible for SME innovation and administration, ensuring corporate compliance with all Local, State, and Federal engineering, construction, and safety regulations, and providing strategic and consistent direction to address current and future challenges in a large-scale and multi-faceted business organization.

Your Impact

  • Manage the work of a design and construction team for the duration of the design build contract.

  • Interface routinely with the client, design/builder and other stakeholders for coordinated project delivery.

  • Lead the construction management and administration activities related to cost, schedule and quality, with team support.

  • Manage the technical submittal, shop drawing review and RFI process, with support of design engineers.

  • Chair regular construction meetings, facilitating actions and outcomes.

  • Evaluate construction work performance for general conformance to plans and specifications.

  • Review construction progress and recommend payments to contractors.

  • Review and assess progress of work for compliance with approved construction schedule.

  • Lead the investigation of construction deficiencies and offer recommended corrective actions.

  • Manage the change order management process, with support of project control specialists, construction engineers, and designers.

  • Assure that document control systems are established and maintained, through project closeout.

  • Assist the Program Managers with compiling data, for monthly reports.

  • Be available to work day, night, or weekend shifts, depending on construction schedule, and critical activities.

  • Lead the most complex and largest scale transit and rail engineering projects within the engineering discipline, ensuring contributors know what they are required to do and by when, preparing and overseeing relevant project budgets, monitoring internal and external events, tracking hours and expenses, ensuring satisfactory performance and profitability, and supervising subcontractors, contract work, and employees.

  • Lead technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentations, and meetings.

  • Accountable for the profitable performance of the individual projects and the successful completion of the projects within the specifed area.

  • Drive compliance and accountability-at-all-levels with applicable Federal, State, and Local engineering/design/construction laws, codes, policies, and regulatory requirements.

  • Provide discipline leadership to multi-disciplinary project teams and contribute to providing high level strategic advice to clients.

  • Provides performance guidance and proactive leadership to assigned managers and staff.

  • Remain current in latest transit and rail engineering techniques and practices.

  • Collaborates with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years of project management/construction management experience

  • Minimum 7 years experience with construction projects for transit/rail

  • Minimum 3 construction projects for transit/rail

  • Bachelors of Science in Engineering, Construction Management or related fields

  • Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).

  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to manage staff,and effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated ability with establishing, implementing, and managing multiple larger-scale discipline-related programs, documents, projects, and practices for a line(s) of business.

  • Strategic lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization ofresponsibilities in a pressure work environment.

  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, and company-wide staff, including those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship exists.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.

  • Design Build experience

  • Professional Engineer License in the Stae of Massachusetts
