VMware Sr. Product Manager - Platform Integration - Opportunity for Working Remotely in Boston, Massachusetts

VMware is looking for a Product Line Manager to join Tanzu and the Modern Applications Platform Business Unit (MAPBU) product team. VMware customers are increasingly deploying containers as the foundation of their application modernization efforts. The MAPBU team delivers best-in-class enterprise cloud-native solutions – supporting container frameworks such as Kubernetes.

This Tanzu team is chartered with providing application teams with a “native” Kubernetes experience that complements our existing Tanzu App Service (TAS) offering. They are a fast-paced, startup-like team where you will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the product roadmap while developing skills in cutting-edge technologies. You will be part of an action-oriented team that has a culture of open communication, empowerment, innovation, teamwork, and customer success. We are looking for someone with a strong technical background to help define and evangelize the core capabilities of our next-generation app development and operations solution.

Given the current state of the program, we are looking for Product Manager’s that thrive and excel in the early phases of definition of a product, are not scared of large, complex problems, are truly passionate about users (developers & platform teams), knowledgeable about the Kubernetes ecosystem (or willing to learn!) and work well in fast-moving, quick-adjusting and collaborative environments.

About You

You have seen the power of empowered, balanced teams and believe in Outcomes over Output (https://vimeo.com/206617354/a4f8a1f8e8) . You have strong product instincts, but more importantly have an appreciation for and understanding of data-informed decision making, lean startup, agile and user-centered design values, principles, and practices. You are excited by the user and business value that technology can unlock. You thrive in a complex ecosystem, collecting, sharing, and synthesizing input from many directions and enabling the teams that you work with to continuously deliver customer value. You believe in doing the right thing and doing what works. To learn more about Tanzu watch this video (http://https//www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYO4WrPKWI8) . #TeamTanzu

Interested? Here is what we look for:

  • Excited to build developer-focused tooling that streamlines the software deployment process, enabling enterprises to focus on their core business.

  • A strong collaborator who actively fosters safe and inclusive teams. You enjoy mentoring others as much as you like learning from them.

  • You work well with others to jointly define and drive product strategy, vision and roadmap while evangelizing to internal stakeholders, partners and users of our product.

  • You are well versed in methods to discover customer problems and create valuable, desirable and feasible solutions.

  • You enjoy breaking down problems and helping the dev team prioritize the most important problems to solve to deliver measurable value towards the vision with your team.

  • You are excited to innovate and iterate on lean product practices.

  • You are excited to engage with customers and the larger open source community of users.

The following are attributes we see in successful candidates, but they are not “requirements.” You are strongly encouraged to apply even if you don’t tick all the boxes because we want to hear from you and learn about what you can bring to the role:

  • 5+ years of Product Management experience, especially with large scale, distributed products.

  • Ability to break down technically complex customer needs into simple solutions.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills and the ability to teach others.

  • Focused on data-driven approaches to solving problems, and accelerating the learning process to validate solutions.

  • Ability to collaborate well with engineers, designers, and other partners.

  • Experience with Lean and User-Centered Design methodologies.

  • Experience with agile development methodology, ideally Extreme Programming.

  • Understanding of the IT operations or software development space with a passion for understanding the life of Enterprise IT Operators and Application Developers.

  • Experience working on enterprise software is a plus. Experience with Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry and platform automation is a plus.

  • Experience with our technologies and processes is a plus (Ruby, Go, Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry, Linux systems, Agile, TDD, XP).

  • Professional experience with relevant domains, such as distributed systems, API design, and release engineering and automation practices.

  • Interested in working in diverse and highly collaborative environments.

  • Past contribution to thriving open source communities.

  • Familiarity with common development tools/stacks, such as Unix, command-line interfaces, and CI/CD.
