Amazon Sr. Pharmacy Design Engineer in Boston, Massachusetts

We are looking for a Sr. Pharmacy Design Engineer to join us on our journey to make it drastically easier for customers to find, choose, afford, and engage with the services, products, and professionals they need to get and stay healthy!

In this role, you will use cross-functional knowledge of pharmacy operations systems, processes, procedures, and tools to define system requirements and design fulfillment solutions. This role will be responsible for partnering with other engineering teams to ensure new equipment and modifications to existing equipment installed in operational Amazon buildings comply with all applicable codes, regulations and harmonized standards. Successful candidates are natural self-starters who have prior engineering experience in the integrated automation project life cycle, including development, design, implementation, enhancement, and support. Our Sr. Pharmacy Design Engineers must be agile with the ability to quickly adapt strategies, plans, and solutions in response to dynamic business requirements. They also must be comfortable interfacing and driving various functional teams and individuals at all levels of the organization. This individual must have an applied understanding of regional and international regulations, codes and standards and should be knowledgeable in control systems, environmental, and ergonomic design principles.

Phoenix, AZ or Seattle, WA locations considered for the right candidate. Individuals can expect 25-50% travel (variable throughout the year) based on business needs at the time.

Key job responsibilities

• Design, build, improve, and innovate on pharmacy fulfillment centers throughout the network.

• Manage, design, and implement integrated automation projects with system elements such as automated dispensing, high-speed sortation, multiple conveyors, package lines and/or robotic work cells.

• Identify, explore, evaluate, justify and realize solutions that add value by improving output quality, throughput rates, capacity, system utilization, and the reduction of waste.

• Lead and coordinate design and execution efforts between internal teams and outside vendors including equipment specifications, material flow, process design, and site layout.

• Develop and manage budget and contract documents including RFPs, change order controls, purchase orders, and invoicing.

• Develop a deep understanding of FC operations including the day to day workings and strategic network planning.

• Develop cross-functional knowledge of pharmacy operations systems, processes, procedures, and tools.

• Simultaneously manage multiple high visibility projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors and vendors.

• Provide technical leadership for large-scale engineering projects

• Lead ergonomic design improvements leveraging digital human modeling results

• Develop standard work documentation across multiple building types

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or a related field

  • 5+ years of experience as a project engineer, process engineer, project manager, manufacturing engineer, or related occupation.

  • Demonstrated design, project management, sourcing, and/or implementation of large-scale integrated automation solutions, such as pharmacy automation systems, complex material handling systems, high speed packaging lines, and/or manufacturing lines

  • Proven comprehension of electro mechanical designs and integrated machine controls, ideally with pharmacy automation and MHE system design experience

  • Ability to travel up to 50% of time to installation sites throughout North America.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Engineering (any discipline) or foreign equivalent, Operations, Business Administration, or a related field and at least five years of progressively responsible experience in the specialty.

  • Experience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems including robotics and high-speed manufacturing.

  • Highly proficient CAD skills; capable of independently developing an integrated automation layout

  • Experience in developing and managing contract documents including RFPs, change order controls, purchase orders, and invoicing

  • Demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills and ability to use hard data and metrics to back up recommendations and develop business cases

  • Proficient understanding of WMS/WCS systems

  • Proficiency with concepts like system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, and decision making.

  • Design-in-Safety experience

  • MOST certification

  • Experience with process design based on Lean Principles.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $205,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
