The Senior Director, Finance - Online Skills sets the strategy and leads the Online Skills financial planning team, and understands all key business drivers that enables the team to deliver insightful, value-added analysis. This role partners with the SVP, Financial Planning and Analysis and with the General Manager of the Online Skills Business unit and serves as a key member of the Online Skills Leadership team.

This is a highly visible position that plays a key role in driving double digit revenue performance, new commercial strategies and driving operational improvements through process excellence. This business has a proven track record of over 10% growth per year and is growth hacking its way to a sustained 20%-30% annual growth rate. As the primary finance partner in this growth engine at Cengage, you will be at the forefront of making that growth possible. With a start up mentality within Cengage, this role is a hands on leader and an integral partner to the General Manager.

What You’ll Do Here:

  • Sets the vision and direction for the Online Skills Finance team. This includes providing financial and strategic support to the Executive team and key leaders and delivering value-add insights and analysis to enable/drive business performance

  • Leads financial planning and analysis including forecasting, reporting and analysis of revenue for the business, ensuring budgets are collaboratively developed, communicated and met/exceeded

  • Provides proactive leadership on improving revenue performance

  • Develops analyses to evaluate opportunities to reduce Cost of Sales through an in-depth understanding of key drivers including royalties

  • Identifies areas for improvement and leads cross-functional team to achieve increased efficiencies/savings

  • Drives operational efficiencies through strict management of vendor spend and overall strict cost management

  • Develops sophisticated financial intelligence to deliver value and critical information to the General Manager

  • Establishes clear return on investment metrics for major business expenditures while providing input on economic and strategic benefits

  • Leads preparation of meaningful variance analyses of actual vs. forecast financial performance, analyzes trends in orders, revenue, cost of sales, expenses and provides recommendations to senior management in support of strategic business decisions

  • Forms relationships within finance and accounting teams and with functional leaders across the organization and collaborates with internal and external partners to understand the business’ current state and develop insights based on data that can be understood and implemented to drive department goals and strategies

  • Ensures that the appropriate financial controls and reporting systems are in place for Product areas

  • Develops and promotes key finance talent and champions a positive team focused environment

  • Defines, acquires, and allocates budget, staff, and other resources to accomplish the goals and/or objectives of the program group/function

  • Interviews, selects and trains staff to provide quality results for the organization as needed, and identifies/resolves performance issues as appropriate

Skills:

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in roles of increasing responsibility in finance; MBA or equivalent experience required

  • Exceptional skills in leadership, critical thinking and analysis, and interpersonal interactions

  • Experience with M&A and integrating acquisitions

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience managing and leading successful teams

  • Experienced knowledge of the profitability drivers vital to achieve financial objectives while providing for investment in future growth

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills and Hyperion; experience working with large, complex data sets

  • Demonstrated record of tangible improvements in results/processes during career

  • Energetic, passionate and articulate communicator with ability to convey information to a wide broad range of audiences, writes and delivers quality presentations that are adjusted by audience and articulates complex, technical information with experience of developing materials for executive leadership interactions

  • Robust, high energy self-starter to lead a hard working team in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment

  • Comfortable working in an organization operating in a state of change/transformation
