Space Planning Associate - Senior

Department Description:The Facilities Planning, Design and Construction Department at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center provides project management, space planning, and design services to the hospital community.

Job Summary:Provides support with planning, design and construction projects, building information and CAD drawing assistance. Must think creatively about spatial organization while maximizing utilization and efficiencies. Interacts with a dynamic cross section of medical center departments and staff.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Manager of Space Planning on planning and construction projects; including data analysis and reporting, move matrices, and large-scale planning efforts.

  • Coordinates and assigns tasks to Space Planning Associates in addition to providing technical guidance and training. No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position.

  • Manages the Medical Center's CAFM space inventory and is responsible for developing and maintaining data to support space utilization, allocation, and planning on a 2.9 million square foot campus.

  • Develop occupancy solutions of varying scale and complexity, migrating plans, and sequencing group-level moves/relocation. Develop and/or modify database queries and generate reports for special projects and in response to user requests.

  • Work with various user groups to identify project objectives and innovate creative solutions, always with a Human First mentality. Utilize Evidence-Based Design principles.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Planning preferred.

  • 3-5 years related work experience required.

  • Advanced technical computer skills as required for technical support specific to functional area and related systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project management skills preferred.

  • Knowledge:Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.

  • Team Work:Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.

  • Customer Service:Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.

Physical Nature of the Job:

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally in carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling objects. Sitting most of the time, with walking and standing required only occasionally
