RedHat Software Engineering Internship in Boston, Massachusetts

Job summary

The Red Hat OpenShift team is looking for a Software Engineering Intern to join us in Boston, MA. In this role, you will contribute to the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, built on Linux containers and the Kubernetes cluster management system. Being part of the Red Hat OpenShift team is about passion for technology and development. We are building a system that is changing how development is done. You'll need to be able to work in a fast-paced and sometimes chaotic environment, with the goal of contributing to one of the most cutting-edge cloud computing projects. You will be working on the Node team within OpenShift. During the internship, you will be mainly working on the container runtime CRI-O. CRI-O is one part of a group of container technologies and libraries like Podman, Buildah, skopeo, containers or image, and containers or storage. All these container technologies work together to provide a full solution for OpenShift. You will be responsible for adding features to CRI-O as well as fixing bugs. This may involve making changes to the other container projects mentioned above as they share common libraries throughout. You will be mainly working in Golang and contribute to these upstream projects including kubernetes and OpenShift.

Primary job responsibilities

Work with the following technologies on a day-to-day basis; don't be discouraged if you aren't familiar with some of the tools and technology included in the list below, as we can help you learn as long as you have the flexibility to apply your knowledge and experience to these new tools:

  • Docker

  • Kubernetes

  • Linux and UNIX operating systems

Develop code with the following tools:

  • Go

  • JavaScript

  • Bash scripts

  • Other OpenShift-supported languages

  • Communicate with community members through IRC, forums, and email

  • Participate in upstream projects

Required skills

  • Practical experience with web or system programming, or equivalent university coursework

  • Knowledge of the UNIX and Linux operating system in any distribution

  • Ability to communicate at an intermediate level in English as part of a global team

  • Previous code contributions to open source projects or code samples on GitHub is a plus
