Microsoft Corporation Senior Software Engineer in Boston, Massachusetts

Commercial Software Engineering (CSE) enables high-impact customers and partners to achieve more and drive the value of our intelligent cloud and edge. We are hiring a Principal Software Engineer with deep experience and expertise designing and delivering commercially-competitive software using modern software engineering practices and modern cloud architectures. You will be part of a team that delivers leading-edge applications and solutions in partnership with high-impact customers and partners. You will also work closely with Microsoft engineering groups, providing feedback and influencing roadmap decisions.

Responsibilities

In this customer facing engineering role, you would be responsible for:

  • Work with high-impact customers and partners to identify key business and technology opportunities and help those companies achieve more by bringing in software engineering teams to partner on addressing those challenges

  • Drive early technology programs by working with innovative companies to adopt key emerging capabilities of Microsoft Azure

  • Work closely with the Microsoft engineering groups to provide feedback to influence the future product roadmap

  • Deliver lighthouse Azure wins with mission critical customers and partners

  • Develop and deploy secure, scalable, reliable, commercially available solutions

  • Scope real world projects, architect solutions, resolve issues and deliver business value to the customer

  • Ensure synchronization between Microsoft teams to meet the project requirements

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated deep technical capabilities across cloud technologies, including Azure, AWS or GCP - delivering commercially viable software

  • A deep understanding of the cloud computing landscape, as well as emerging trends

  • Strong business acumen and track record of building technical and business relationships with senior executives across customers and partners as well as Microsoft engineering, marketing and sales teams

  • Executive Maturity – ability to influence and integrate with CxOs and navigate competitive situations

  • Demonstrated ability to work with customers to extract specific business goals and requirements and translate those requirements into solutions to meet customer goals and objectives

  • Great communication and presentation skills including public speaking at industry events

  • An entrepreneurial mind-set which fosters an environment of creativity and inspires innovation and risk taking

  • Understanding of cloud fundamentals such as security, performance and scalability

  • Knowledge of software development practices and a track record of working closely with large development teams

  • Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in software development or data analytics - Linux and OSS experience required

  • Results driven with strong analytical skills and exceptional verbal and written communications skills

  • Exceptional decision-making, conflict resolution, and follow through

  • BS/BA degree required, Masters in Computer Science or other technology related field of study a plus

  • Moderate travel (25% - 50%) is required including international travel
