The CloudHealth Policy team provides customers with automated notifications and actions based on their cloud infrastructure, configurations and costs. As a Software Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to make a significant and direct impact on our products, platform, and tackle some of the most complex challenges in cloud computing.

What is primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?

This position is for you if you are a developer who gets excited about data analysis and automation that solves real user problems while focusing on the customer experience in every deliverable. You will work closely with Product Management to develop core product features that notify and automate changes to the cloud infrastructure, configurations and costs. You will be in a collaborative environment whose team cares about the product they are creating, how they create it, and the impact it has on customers’ business objectives.

Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

  • Advance your technical and interpersonal skills in an environment that looks to expand them.

  • Deliver software designs for full-stack implementation of the policy framework, features and supporting microservices.

  • Experiment, iterate, and deliver on new product objectives with end-to-end responsibility for your team’s goals.

  • Produce high quality and well-documented code in an automated CI/CD environment and deliver automated tests while obsessing over quality in the code you write and the product you create.

  • Be responsible for designing and delivering the supporting infrastructure functions to deliver your solutions at cloud-scale, including features such as usage tracking, throttling, monitoring and alerting.

  • Regularly evaluated on the quality of the product you create and the code you write to ensure continued advancement of your technical skills in an environment that looks to expand them.

  • Partner with Product Management to define and develop software that solves key customer problems, from inception to implementation.

  • Collaborate with Product Management, Architects, and other engineering teams to deliver software supporting a highly available, fault tolerant SaaS platform.

  • Innovate every day.

  • Produce software designs to support long term maintainability and extensibility of code.

  • Define, scale and optimize cloud infrastructure for application needs.

  • Work in multi-functional agile teams to regularly experiment, iterate, and deliver on new product objectives with an end-to-end responsibility for your team’s goals.

  • Obsess over quality in the product you create, and the code you write.

  • Participate in our on-call rotation for platform operational support.

  • Communicate within and outside the team to identify and define dependencies.

  • Advance your technical and interpersonal skills in an environment that looks to expand them.

What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

This position reports to the Manager of Software Engineering for our optimization teams. The team is a mix of levels from senior engineers through recent graduates. We focus on iterative development, both of software and our software development practices.

You will be a part of a collaborative team that works hard and plays hard. We have a passion for making our customers successful, and a deep understanding of their needs. As a team we are dedicated to doing the right thing, building quality software and driving growth for CloudHealth and VMware.

What will help you in this role?

  • A sense of humor (Non-negotiable). We work too hard to not have fun and celebrate individual/team/company accomplishments.

  • 4+ years of relevant work experience in software development.

  • Experience working with two or more of the following areas: SAAS, distributed systems, information retrieval, web application development, GraphQL APIs, database management, microservice design, or have understanding of cloud security, AWS, Azure, or GCP.

  • Experience in or willingness to learn: Java, Ruby, Scala, React, Angular and AWS development services.

  • Bachelor of Science degree, or equivalent, in Computer Science or a related field
