Merck Senior Scientist, Translational Cellular Biosciences in Boston, Massachusetts

Job Description

Our Quantitative Sciences team use big data to analyze the safety and efficacy claims of our potential medical breakthroughs. We review the quality and reliability of clinical studies using deep scientific knowledge, statistical analysis and high-quality data to support decision making in clinical trials.

The Quantitative Biosciences department, Boston is seeking a highly motivated, talented and experienced Senior Scientist to develop and execute In-Vitro Cellular Translation Assays. The preferred applicant will have a track record of achievement to independently design, execute and troubleshoot experiments. The primary responsibilities will include the design and implementation of various in vitro cellular platforms, primarily developing 3D and organoid–based assays for translational medicine studies. In addition, the successful candidate will be involved in the execution of cellular high throughput compound and biologics screens in support of internal drug discovery programs. The candidate will be required to properly document the experimental findings, provide analysis, evaluation and initial data interpretation. The candidate is expected to work both independently and to proactively collaborate with colleagues within the department and across disciplines. Advanced oral and written communication skills are a must.

The specific responsibilities of the candidate include but are not limited to:

  • Independently design and implement various cellular in vitro assays using a wide range of methodologies, including 3D and organoid cultures.

  • Execute semi- and fully automated medium and high throughput compound screens in support of internal drug discovery programs.

  • Properly document and report the experimental findings and provide scientific contribution to research projects/programs in multiple disease areas

  • Work closely with members within department and across functional teams in support of research projects/programs at different discovery stages.

Position Qualifications :

Education Minimum Requirement: Ph.D. in Biological Science or related discipline with a minimum of 2 year of post-doctoral experience, or M.Sc. with 5-7 years of postgraduate experience in industrial or academic labs.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Hands-on cellular assay development and troubleshooting skills. Extensive job related laboratory research with 3D, Organoid and iPSC Tissue Culture methodologies in academic or industrial setting

  • Experience with multi-parametric Flow Cytometry and Imaging platforms.

  • Solid data analytical and problem solving skills and proficiency in standard scientific software used for data analysis.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including preparation of study reports, presentations and manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed scientific journals.

  • Demonstrated ability to function and communicate effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment and thrive in a team environment.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Research and drug discovery working experience in multiple therapeutic areas, including immunology, oncology and neuroscience.

  • Experience with cell engineering, and DNA and RNA sequencing.

  • Experience with operating robotic equipment and familiarity with the latest High Throughput Screening (HTS) detection technologies.
