Amentum Senior Quality & Continuous Improvement Manager in Boston, Massachusetts

The Senior Quality & Continuous Improvement Manager (Sr. QCIM) is able to lead both Quality and Continuous Improvement programs. The Sr. QCIM works with other quality personnel and continuous improvement personnel, project managers, and program and functional team leadership in planning, designing, and accomplishing key projects, and assists program managers with the skills (Quality, LSS, PM, Financial) required to be successful. The Sr. QCIM is a strategic-thinking, self-starting leader reporting to the Amentum Corporate Director of Quality Management or Amentum Director of Continuous Improvement.
As a Quality leader, the Sr. QCIM is responsible for ensuring effective and efficient execution of Amentum’s ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS). The Sr. QCIM develops, plans, and executes internal process audits; manages and follows up on Corrective Action Requests (CARs) resulting from internal and external process audits; manages day-to-day activities related to management of corporate policies, processes, and procedures; assists program and corporate functional teams in achieving and maintaining quality. The Sr. QCIM also supports development and delivery of required annual quality training; collection of and action on customer satisfaction information; management of operational risks.
As a Continuous Improvement leader, the Sr. QCIM is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (or Master Black Belt) that assists program and functional teams to improve their processes, capabilities, customer satisfaction, and profit margins by leading efforts to improve execution discipline, enhance management control, and transform the enterprise. The Sr. QCIM helps various teams transform process data into high-powered analytics that drive root cause analysis and preventive actions to achieve consistent results and accomplish business objectives. The Sr. QCIM also assists in teaching the Amentum Accredited Lean Six Sigma Green Belt program and mentoring Green Belts produced by the program.
Principal Accountabilities:
Responsible for overall development, implementation, and maintenance of quality assurance/control plans and programs
Collaborate with IT to develop ongoing requirements for and improvements to the OnPoint QMS tool
Develop, maintain, and improve corporate QMS and Continuous Improvement process documentation
Manage Amentum’s document control system and process changes to documents requested by functional process owners
Develop and deliver quality and continuous improvement training programs in a manner that raises employee awareness and enables employees and supervisors to work with improved quality
Responsible for ongoing training of current employees to ensure they are up-to-date with current quality plans and the quality program
Maintain and improve Amentum’s annual required Quality training program
Conduct ad-hoc and formal training to personnel on QMS practices and process development
Champion continuous improvement projects and mentor certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belts or Green Belts in training
Conduct and lead assigned continuous improvement projects, Kaizen events, process mapping exercises, root cause analyses, and other quality and continuous improvement activities
Assist in maintaining and improving Amentum’s Accredited Lean Six Sigma Green Belt curriculum and conduct associated Green Belt classes
Develop and implement written quality and inspection plans
Ensure up to date plans, inspection schedules and reports are available to applicable stakeholders for project/area of responsibility
Recommend and implement new processes or inspection methods to improve quality
Analyze inspection findings to identify and resolve root causes and potentially oversee corrective actions
Investigate and document instances of non-compliance relating to quality
Provide technical inspiration, leadership, and consultation to professional co-workers
Provide leadership for quality assurance and quality control support on assigned program(s) and/or areas to ensure that the product is designed, procured, and installed in accordance with customer and company quality requirements
Provide leadership for new systems, development, proposals, implementation, procedures, and any related quality or continuous improvement activity
Review project/contract/program activities and capabilities to ensure compliance of the quality program
Report any unusual discrepancies or problems promptly to applicable stakeholders and provide recommended solutions
Coordinate with department managers, supervisors and employees to improve and/or resolve issues
Remain current on quality control and continuous improvement practices and trends through training, publications, seminars, conferences and related trade shows
Provide guidance to managers and supervisors to assist them in interpretation of and compliance with quality requirements
Conduct special evaluations, quality surveys and audits
Compile reports and findings of surveys and audits for company officials for review and make action recommendations as required
Conduct and direct internal process audits, prepare formal audit reports, and define audit schedules
Coordinate with external auditors for annual surveillance / recertification of Amentum’s corporate QMS and other regulatory group (e.g., DCMA, DCAA, OSHA) audits
Introduce creative reasoning, question existing processes, and provide innovation and new solutions to exceed prior limits to solve business problems
Proactively identify potential difficulties which can be solved through existing, emerging, and transformative technologies
Promote a strategic mindset with an ability to critically analyze, logically structure, and execute on details, while remaining flexible in an evolving and uncertain environment
Apply established tools, frameworks and methodologies to support business decision-making
Identify and implement ISO 9001, AS9100, Lean Six Sigma, and PMBOK best practices
Assist in establishing processes for business leaders to measure, manage, track, and report operational project results and corresponding financial business benefits
Provide updates regarding progress of quality and continuous improvement activities
Assist in developing communications to the various organizational stakeholders regarding the Continuous Improvement Value Proposition to drive improved business performance
Assist in creating and implementing an approach to measure the organization’s capability in learning and applying continuous improvement techniques
Prepare and submit deliverables on schedule, in accordance with requirements
Support new business proposals requiring solutions for continuous improvement, risk management, performance management, and/or quality management
Identify innovations, map future process states, establish cost efficiencies, and prepare and present business cases
Document architecture design, communication/interfaces, technical details, database schemas
Provide solutions for reporting and analysis using Power BI
Enhance and optimize existing solutions with the aim of increased automation and superior user satisfaction
Prepare and execute test cases
Ensure quality of solutions provided to Stakeholders and adhere to project plans
Assist in user acceptance testing, troubleshooting, and end-user support
Document technical specifications and user guidelines, and provide end-user training
Conduct site visits as requested to assist various stakeholders with quality and continuous improvement activities and events
Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested
Knowledge & Skills

Proficiency in Change Management techniques
Expert, demonstrated knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100D, AS9110 ISO 19001 standards and practices
Strong, demonstrated knowledge of Lean Six Sigma, Root Cause Analysis, problem solving, Statistical Process Control, internal audit processes
Ability to develop, conduct, and analyze results from customer satisfaction surveys
Strong ability to develop quality objectives, KPIs, and metrics from business processes and requirements
Highly proficient in project management
Excellent skills in MS Office products including advanced Excel capabilities
Ability to develop visual reports, KPI scorecards, and dashboards using Power BI, including connecting data sources, importing data, and transforming data for Business Intelligence
Capable of implementing and architecting business logic
Understanding of SQL and relational databases
Experience & Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Quality Assurance, Engineering, Management, Business, or related field; experience may be substituted for degree
Ten (10) years of experience or equivalent combination of related training/experience; with at least four (4) years in a QA/QC capacity and four (4) years in a management role and seven (7) years managing complex projects
7 years experience applying advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Certified PMI PMP
Certified AS9100 Lead Auditor
Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (or Master Black Belt)
Preferred but not Required
- Active Secret clearance or better (preferred but not required)
Work Location/Travel
The role is expected to travel up to 10% (domestic and/or international). Must be willing and able to operate in US Central or Eastern Time Zones standard business hours, regardless of home time zone.
