Thermo Fisher Scientific Senior Finance Manager (FP&A) in Boston, Massachusetts

Position Summary:

The Senior Finance Manager is responsible for Finance, Reporting, Analysis and Business support for Life Science Mass Spectrometry business unit, a $600M global business. This role reports to the Sr Finance Director and partners closely with business unit and divisional leadership team. This position is responsible for driving business decisions through effective analysis and communication with senior management. Location: ideally, the hiring manager prefers this candidate to be willing to work out of our San Jose, CA office or Waltham, MA. Also open to 100% remote for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Analysis & Reporting

  • Lead monthly/quarterly financial and management forecasting and reporting process for LSMS BU, analyze full P&L, working capital performance and other key financial metrics. Present and articulate monthly/quarterly financial to BU/Divisional leadership.

  • Use a broad range of reporting tools to improve data reporting efficiency, improve the depth of analytics and the accuracy of forecast, use data to identify risks and opportunities and drive concrete actions.

  • Develop and improve reporting and analyses as needed to improve visibility of business performance and track initiatives. Be the key person to standardize and improve internal processes, projects and milestones, and ensure project completion with results.

  • Closely partner with Controllership team, Operations finance, Factory Accounting teams to understand root causes of financial performance, analyze trends, identify potential issues and ensure little to no surprises.

  • Lead through system and data complexities to streamline processes and drive continuous improvement for the business unit related to HFM, Data Warehouse, and CRM

  • Business Partnership & Strategic Support

  • Work closely with Product Management and Marketing teams to design and implement programs to drive business growth in a profitable way. Develop tools and analytics to produce insights and leading indicators to support decision making, including NPI modeling, new product launch support, pricing strategy, new business model development, etc.

  • Strong business acumen to identify and develop initiatives to constantly improve performance of the business, including margin expansion (product mix, pricing, sourcing), cost savings, productivity improvements, supply chain efficiencies, restructuring and any other relevant areas

  • Partner with regional teams (commercial, finance, logistics teams, etc.) to drive transparency and alignment, and implement regional initiatives and programs to support growth strategies and tactics.

  • Provide strong support to cross functional teams including R&D, factory operations, Supply Chain, etc. to improve efficiency and proactively address gaps in processes and procedures.

  • Management and Personnel Development

  • Provide leadership among the LSMS finance team, train, mentor and develop team members to drive for results

  • Conduct regular one-on-ones, PMD, HRR discussions with team member to provide active feedback to the team on achieving personal and organizational goals and advancing their career

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in Finance leadership roles. Experience in managing global business preferred.

  • BA degree in Finance, Accounting, Management, Economics or related field desired

  • SAP experience required; Hyperion and advanced Excel/Access required

  • Deep understanding of business intelligence platforms including Power BI, Domo, etc.

  • Self-motivated; high bias for action and timely project completion

  • Strong analytical skills with experience in developing business processes and system enhancements to drive productivity

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, able to summarize and present information in a concise and effective manner

  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills and an initiative/creativity to drive change with a hands-on approach and an intense focus on results
