About the role:

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you’ll grow and manage teams responsible for the storage of some of our critical genetic data sets and help build an ML platform that turns that data into results that help our customers better care for their dogs. While this is not a hands-on coding role, you will lean on your software and systems development experience to help steer architecture and design decisions and develop meaningful technical and product roadmaps. You will report directly to the Sr. Director of Engineering and will work closely with your counterparts in Product and Science to deliver results that delight our customers and help advance our mission of extending lives and longevity in dogs.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead, hire, and mentor a team of talented engineers

  • Partner with science, product, and tech leads to develop and execute against roadmaps

  • Host regular 1:1s with all direct reports which include frequent, actionable feedback

  • Oversee and improve processes to increase velocity and improve delivery reliability and quality

  • Provide feedback on architecture and design decisions in partnership with tech leads

  • Remove blockers and implement best practices to increase developer happiness and productivity

  • Track and share progress towards milestones and outcomes

  • Conduct annual performance reviews

    What experience we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience

  • 7+ years of software engineering or related experience

  • 3+ years of engineering management experience

  • Experience working on and/or managing engineering teams in genetics/bioinformatics or a related scientific field

  • Hands-on or management experience building a machine learning (ML) platform

  • Hands-on or management experience working in AWS

  • Proven track record of hiring and building high-performance engineering teams and culture

  • Ability to lead a team of 5+ engineers to deliver systems that meet technical and business needs

  • Implementing and improving agile development methodologies

  • Experience developing technical and product roadmaps

  • Hands-on experience with a variety of data storage technologies

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex information to a variety of stakeholders

    Experience that is Nice to Have (but not required):

  • Professional experience coding in Python
