Job Summary

Rhythm seeks an experienced, innovation-driven individual to join our Medical Affairs team as Senior Director, Global Field Medical. This person has responsibility to develop, lead and drive the implementation of the strategic vision and direction for field teams to ensure alignment across diverse sets of external stakeholders. The Senior Director will have direct management and leadership responsibility for multiple international field teams including US Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs), EU MSLs, and US Disease Education Liaisons (DELs). This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate with strong clinical and busines acumen to identify, communicate, and address trends in the global healthcare environment. Exceptional communication and relationship building skills will be required to engage with cross-functional partners including research, clinical development, medical, and commercial teams in support of advancing the awareness and understanding of Rhythm science within the focus of rare genetic disorders of obesity.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Engage internal leaders and external stakeholders to ensure that field medical is addressing the pressing needs of the rare genetic disorders of obesity healthcare community through continuous innovation while maintaining the highest compliance standards.

  • Ensure operational translation of corporate and medical strategic priorities into objectives, KPIs, and clear engagement guidance (e.g. MSL-clinical collaboration on studies, KOL stratification and engagement planning, disease state education programs, evidence generation projects) based on region and country specific needs for the field medical organization.

  • Lead, manage, coach and develop field leadership team including Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Directors, MSLs, Disease Education Liaison (DEL) Directors, and DELs across international geographies.

  • Develop mutually collaborative partnerships with internal stakeholder groups such as Translational Research and Development (TRAD), Clinical Development, Marketing, Patient Engagement & Advocacy, and Market Access.

  • Collaborate with Training & Operations to identify gaps and develop solution-oriented tools, technology infrastructure and training requirements necessary to fulfill field medical activities.

  • Partner effectively with the Medical Directors as well as with the Medical Communications function to deliver the tools, resources and materials needed by the field teams to create meaningful scientific exchange.

  • Coordinate and implement a medical insights process; identify key business questions for field execution and create internal communication channels to ensure field medical insights of strategic importance to the organization are delivered in a consistent, actionable and timely manner.

  • Lead and encourage innovative approaches in field medical by staying abreast of industry benchmarks and evolving field models to maximize customer value and impact.

  • Oversee team operational activities including personnel and financial resources.

  • Attract, hire, develop and retain top field medical talent.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Advanced degree in health sciences or related field, such as PharmD, PhD or MD degree

  • 12+ years experience in medical affairs with 5+ years focus on field medical capabilities, competency with international medical teams preferred

  • 5+ years experience people management

  • Proven track record of strong strategic leadership, teamwork, innovation, project management and demonstrated ability to manage, lead and mentor individuals

  • Demonstrated understanding of legal and regulatory guidelines of pharmaceutical industry

  • Performance oriented with business acumen and focus on customer service and patient centric attitude

  • Ability to travel as necessary when appropriate (estimated 50%)
