Commissioning Engineer Boston, MA

WSP, an award‑winning and innovative multi‑disciplinary engineering consulting firm, seeks a Commissioning Engineer for our Boston Office. WSP works closely with architects and owners from around the world on large, complex projects with a focus on sustainability and energy performance of the built environment.

About the job

Our Engineers work on high quality, high-profile, national and international projects. You will actively execute energy audits, building commissioning and retro-commissioning tasks on projects and assist the design team to meet project goals.

The individual will work on multiple projects, interact directly with clients, deliver quality reports and complete projects on time and within budget. They will work in a team environment and share in WSP’s extensive technical expertise.

Responsibilities Include

  • Commissioning and Retro Commissioning of MEP/FP and other major building systems

  • Working with systems such as steam, compressed air, chilled water, HVAC, plumbing, automation systems, security, and data/comm

  • USGBC / LEED and Energy Code Commissioning requirements

  • Document control, functionality verification, equipment testing and creation of checklists/punch lists

  • Conduct ASHRAE Level 1, 2, 3 energy audits

  • Identifying and evaluating energy efficiency measures, calculate the savings potential of measures, and prepare assessment reports.

  • Create formal documentation including field reports, test scripts, spreadsheets, etc.

  • Collect field data, perform system monitoring, technical analyses, commissioning and verification for energy efficiency projects

  • Trouble shoot or inspect buildings and equipment using data collection techniques and diagnostic tools

  • Gather/analyze data from utility bills, data loggers and building control systems

  • Develop and implement measurement and verification plans

  • Prepare written analyses and present recommendations for improvement in energy efficiency

  • Develop Systems Manuals and review and comment on contractor/owner training plans

Job Requirements

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Construction-related field.

  • 5 to 10 years of hands on systems commissioning experience

  • Knowledge of the building design and construction industry with expertise in the building commissioning process is essential.

  • Technical knowledge of HVAC and building automation systems to evaluate and test the performance of these systems

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills

  • Strong organizational and computer skills are necessary

  • Certified Commissioning Professional, Certified Energy Manager, or other energy related or commissioning certification preferred

Prior experience in HVAC design, energy modeling, and energy code compliance for a variety of commercial building and mechanical/electrical system types, green building certification (e.g. LEED, EGC), and onsite energy auditing is a plus.
