This Opportunity

WSP, an award winning and innovative multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm, is seeking a full time Senior Building Performance Consultant for the Built Ecology team in Boston, MA . Our team work closely with architects, owners, and teams throughout WSP to advance sustainability, health, and resilience goals on large, complex projects around the world.

Built Ecology is WSP’s national Built Environment Sustainability team, providing a broad range of services including sustainability strategy consulting, high performance design and analysis, building certifications, district-scale solutions, training and education, goal setting and workshop facilitation, and integrated project management. We work across a wide range of project types and scales, from horizontal planning and district infrastructure, to vertical design and construction, to ongoing performance and operations. Built Ecology has been directly responsible for driving many leading projects across the globe, including LEED Platinum buildings, Living Building Challenge and WELL projects, net-zero water and energy projects, EcoDistricts, corporate initiatives, and improvements for large building portfolios. Our solutions are typically innovative, integrated, and practical.

Our team takes a unique approach all our projects. We influence strategic decisions for the design of buildings and neighborhoods, infrastructure and landscapes, and organizational outcomes. Through our internship program, we offer an opportunity to experience built environment sustainability services (strategy, analysis, design and implementation) in a project delivery context.

Your Impact

  • Lead detailed energy modeling and building performance analysis activities to achieve established performance targets, LEED certification, energy code compliance, and other energy performance goals

  • Quality control of the technical work done by the local high performance analysis team

  • Technical training of the new hires that join the local high performance analysis team

  • Utilize energy modeling tools to complete carbon modeling and develop net zero carbon roadmaps

  • Step in and help solve technical intricate modeling problems that may require expertise

  • Write reports detailing analysis activities and design advice

  • Liaise internally to facilitate the achievement of project sustainability objectives

  • Review building documentation for the integration of high-performance design aspects

  • Deliver high performance design analysis and project design advice of a high technical standard, integrated across architecture and building systems

Who You Are

Ideal candidates will exhibit the following characteristics:

  • Passionate about creating a sustainable, healthy, resilient, and equitable built environment

  • Driven to create solutions that deliver ambitious high-performance design outcomes

  • Background in sustainability, building design, and high-performance design analytics

  • Strong verbal, written, and graphic communication

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a building design or building science discipline that could include: Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architecture, Building Science or similar from a reputable University in United States, United Kingdom or Canada.

  • 5+ years of energy modeling experience for high-performance projects, building certification (i.e. LEED, Passive House, net-zero, EnergyStar, etc.), and energy code compliance

  • Ability to independently read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings

  • Familiarity with IECC and ASHRAE 90.1, 62.1 and 55 requirements and energy modeling protocols

  • Knowledge of mechanical system architecture and components

  • Experience with IES-VE, OpenStudio, EnergyPlus, and/or eQuest

  • LEED Green Associate

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in a building design or building science discipline that could include: Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architecture, Building Science or similar from a reputable University in United States, United Kingdom or Canada.

  • ASHRAE BEMP certified

  • Scripting skills are a plus, e.g. Python, Grasshopper, Ruby, C#

  • LEED Accredited Professional
